That sounds great! Will try.

Tangentially related: my local grocery story was selling half-fifths? Tenths? 375ml bottles of Hendricks for $9 and a quarter before tax. I bought six but I should have bought more. Hendricks is a fine gin and it goes well with pretty much everything.

Bought some cucumber syrup. It's full of artificial coloring and tartrazine and crap, and it tastes better and more crisp than homemade stuff ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Eleven bucks a bottle if you know where to get it. Cocktail is a typical sour, 1 part lemon, 1 part cuke/St G, 2 parts gin (reserve your judgement, it's the only gin I had laying around)

3/5 pleasant, but too sweet. I ought to add more gin and a splash of soda water, but I will not.

I suppose the real first step would be to watch a few with the script in your hand and then just steal everything you like. That's how art works, anyway.

If I understand correctly, it's common for the composer and the script writer to be different people, so... maybe team up?

I liked playing games on my gameboy, but long gone are the simple days of "insert cartridge, turn on, play". Even the 3DS is kinda bloaty and games dont really feel luke they were designed for the medium.

I liked playing games on my N64 and xbox, but now that I know about modding games it's hard to live with the QoL issues that I know could be fixed.

I liked playing games on my PC, but windows gets worse each generation and finally I had to switch to Linux, where even minor changes take hours. Some people love when their computer has a problem because it gives them something to do -- they get to fix it. I have enough to do, I'm just trying to play games.

I feel like I've been elbowed out of the past time. The user experience is so poor that I end up unhappier for trying. I guess I'll buy a dart board?

The lighter syrup was a simple syrup with pureed cucumber that sat in the fridge for half a day, then got strained. I used powdered sugar because that's what I had.

The darker syrup was made by pureeing and straining a cucumber, then bringing that juice to 145° while mixing in Sugar in the Raw.

A bartender warned me about heating the vegetables and giving it a "soupy" taste, and they had a point. The immersion syrup is less sweet and more watery, but has a more refreshing cucumber flavor. The heated syrup is sweeter, but doesn't have that fresh crispness. Both are okay but neither are great.

    Corpse Reviver (lemmy.world)

Corpse Reviver No. 2 with a bit of orange.

    • 1 part gin
    • 1 part Lillet (or Cochi)
    • 1 part Cointreau
    • half part lemon juice
    • half part orange juice
    • absinthe rinse

Honestly, it is better without the orange. Usually I do 3/4 part lemon juice to keep it from tasting like an expensive gin sour.

For how long must light be emitted for a human eye to perceive it?

    • Would a person notice a flash of light that lasted 10 ms?
    • Does the intensity of the light matter?
    • How much light is a photon, anyway? Does is take thousands or trillions of photons interacting with the eye to register as light?

    1am where I live and I'm wondering

Hopefully this will cause the software and game development industry to optimize their programs as intensly as they did 30 years ago. I assume that upper management types have largely forgotten the value of having a quality product, and that subsequently the time allowed for QA and optimization has shrunk in order to ship the product quicker. The ease of patching has made it worse. Hoping to see some more competent coding in the future.
