There’ve been tens of mods over the years for backlighting a GBA v1. Nowadays there’s clone hardware that plays anything via emulator.

    I'm using an Anbernic clone. It also plays older gameboy games, some arcade cabinet games, NES, etc.

    Build quality is not as good as I remember the gameboy being, but it's still pretty decent. Especially for ~$70.
