It's amazing since all I kept hearing for the past month as this was being done was that this does nothing to fix the underlying issues and that its just going to be the same as it was within weeks due to the heat and low water level. If anything it would be worse due to the dark paint used to absord more heat. Now were here and exactly what was predicted happened and people really blaming shit on more crazy lies lol. These people are beyond nuts.

Sounds like the average large project with multiple project managers.

"I want this done before the deadline and under budget"

"But , we dont have the budget for engineering or research and that deadline isnt enough time to do the work properly"

    "I dont care. Do it"

*project gets done, very shoddy work, has tons of issues in the future that could have been avoided with proper engineering *

Cue the most idiotic person (manager) getting a raise because of their "hard work and being viewed as a "visionary" when in reality theyre a dumbfuck with a big mouth. The American way.

Heh, was just on a call after a big failure of a project, one where 75% of the people on the call had told the project manager exactly what was going to go wrong if they kept going the way it was going and needed to change in a way inconvenient to the project managers world view. Folks repeatedly and loudly got dismissed by the project manager.

Now as they are discussing what went wrong when exactly the thing everyone said would go wrong did, the project manager said "no one could have predicted it going this way".

The real kicker was the right way to do it wouldn't have cost any time or money, it just was a somewhat different than the project manager's imagination (who did not have any actual experience doing the work, but still thought he knew better than the seasoned profesionals because of what he had been reading).

    exactly what was predicted happened

In the MAGA mindset, that just makes it all the more suspicious. Curious, you seemed to know exactly what would happen and conveniently it happened the way you said... You must have done something to make it happen.

They don't even stop and think about how utterly fucking ridiculous these accusations are. I bet you dollars to donuts that near the DC monuments there are cameras everywhere. Where's the footage of these evil Dems dumping buckets of algae in the pool? Any (reliable) eyewitness reports? Any scientists taking samples and maybe seeing if the algae was recently disturbed/transplanted?

I mean, I get it, their feelings mean more to them than facts and evidence, but c'mon, man. This is a 4th grade level critical thinking exercise.

You know more about water chemistry than most of my coworkers at my power plant. I get so tired of telling them to watch the tower pH and make sure the acid is running in auto so the hypo will actually fucking do something. It's a miracle that our condenser performance isn't trashed by fouling. I've caught tower pH at fucking 9 before when it's supposed to be 7.0-7.5, and I'm trying to push for 6.8-7.2.

Better than when cooling water is supplied with an expensive reverse osmosis unit which then proceeds to corrode the entire carbon steel cooling water system due to pH of 5.5 since everyone is convinced water so pure can't do any damage.

let the Ph level rise and alkalinity get low

Did you mean to word it this way? Rising pH means increasing alkalinity. If the alkalinity is getting lower, then the pH is dropping.

There is a much easier way to make algae grow in a shallow slow flowing body of water, just paint the bottom a dark color, that way the water stays warm, most algae love warm water. So all you need to do is get a company to come drain it and paint it a dark color, and Bob's your uncle. It has the added effect of the water staying at the ideal temp for algae growth for a longer percentage of the year, just got to find someone stupid enough to sign off on the plan.

I can't wait for Trump's executive order against photosynthesis.

"Look, nobody knows plants better than me, okay? Nobody. I have the best plants, the greenest leaves, people come up to me with tears in their eyes and they say, "Sir, how do your lawns look so beautiful?" It’s true.

But then you look at what the Radical Left is doing. They’re obsessed with this thing—they call it photosynthesis. Have you heard about this? Photosynthesis. It’s a disaster. A total scam. They want you to believe that the trees, the grass, even the little weeds are just sitting there, working for free, taking the beautiful, glorious sunlight—which I’ve always said is doing a fantastic job, by the way—and turning it into energy. They say it’s "green energy." You see what they're doing there? They’re using the plants to push their Green New Deal!

And the algae. Don't get me started on the algae. I call them Sleepy Algae. They’re in the lakes, they’re in the oceans—billions and billions of them, totally unregulated. They don't pay taxes, they don't buy American-made products, and they’re out there producing oxygen. Millions of gallons of oxygen every day, totally bypassing our incredible oil refineries. It’s a disgrace.

They want to replace our beautiful, clean coal with pond scum! They really do. Fake News CNN won't report it, but the plants are working with the Democrats to undermine everything we've built. We are going to stop it, folks. We’re going to bring back real, traditional American energy, and we are going to make our gardens great again!"

I’m no expert in artificial lake management, but apparently the reason for the algae booms is leakage of the filtration piping that disperses treated water into the soil instead of allowing it to fully circulate into the pool.

The $34 million dollar Obama-era refurbishment attempted to address this with a new system fed by the Potomac river instead of the DC municipal water system, but leakages persist. Trump’s refurbishment project has not made changes to the filtration, piping, or pumping facilities which is probably why algae will continue to be a problem.

It has apparently always been a problem and without a complete overhaul of the plumbing to be redone to accomodate these fixes it wont change. I think Obama had a bid out to have it done but did not do it when it was like 20 million to do it. I also think it's hilarious that he just spent 10 million to do absolutely nothing. At least his pool company is now rich. From my understanding even that paint job will only last like 5 years tops.

Online federal contracting records show that $1.7 million was awarded to Green Water Solutions for the ozone nanobubbling system, while $14.2 million was awarded to Atlantic Industrial Coatings to line the pool in the color “American Flag Blue.”

    Source

It's an ozone system, just like the one before it.

An Interior Department spokesperson said that the current algae is “residual” from supply lines that sat dormant for eight weeks during construction. The residue is part of the normal startup process, the spokesperson said.

    (Same source as above quote)

I don't know why they wouldn't drain the lines but okay.

I don't know the details of the new system. If it's only for treating the new water being fed into the pool like the old one, it's not going to prevent all blooms just minimize the amount of algae or food brought in with the new water.

You can't constantly be bubbling ozone through open pools of water because it off gasses. When it's used as a disinfectant in drinking water the offgas need to be captured and treated.

Eta: found an article from May describing the system
