The US Army isn't big enough to take over the whole country at once; they'd have to have the National Guard on board.

The governors of every state would have to mobilize their units.

Now, if there was an actual major calamity going on [think of an actual invasion from China] the governors would fall into line pretty quickly. If it was Donald Trump declaring martial law after losing an election the Dem governors would line up to oppose him.

governors would fall into line pretty quickly

Dem governors would line up to oppose him.

This isn't really possible anymore, State NGs are nationalized so the federal government is already in charge. That's how JFK enforced desegregation in Alabama, he literally removed the state governor from the chain of command: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_in_the_Schoolhouse_Door

It's the same reason Walz did basically nothing in Minnesota. If he attempted to direct the NG or even his separate State militia, Trump would have thrown him into a charge under insurrection.

It would fall on the NG or Militia CO to proclaim allegiance to either the state or federal government. Considering what has happened so far, the most you'd see is some resignations.

Dem governors would line up to oppose him.

Do you have any reason other than your own expectations to believe this is true? Looking at their response to him so far I don't think they would do shit. I don't think I would have said that two years ago but their spinelessness up to this point is pretty shocking.

Walz hasn't done much of anything about ICE invading Minnesota and Newsom types his Twitter posts like an idiot now. What else have any of them done?

I mean, you already have SA ICE thugs going around breaking the law with impunity ... so, pretty much nothing would change?

The No Kings protests have been an amazing show of opposition to Trump and the Republican party. Are you mocking them?

They really seem to be affected by it. Trump may finally step down after seeing all those witty signs.

No Kings isn't for Trump, he's too stupid and self-delusional to understand anything. It's for all the other MAGA leadership, who are quickly understanding that it is all falling apart at an increasing rate. Once you have major supporters openly condemning them, it's over.

No Kings isn't supposed to do anything but demonstrate opposition numbers, and since each one grows larger, that is making a HUGE psychological impact on MAGA. Many got on board MAGA because they thought it was the winning side, and they want to be winners. When they see that they are on the unpopular side, many will walk away from MAGA. NO Kings helps drive that home to these dipshits.

It also helps energize those at home, who think MAGA is in total control, and there's nothing they can do. No Kings demonstrates to those people that they aren't alone, there are millions of others fighting for them.

Strike. Protest during the weekday. Throw molotov cocktails. Revolt. Storm the capital. Anything at this point.

This is a great way to get thrown in prison and accomplish nothing. Building cohesive local mutual aid networks and progressively larger protests accomplishes way more as far as resistance to Trump

We'll get thrown in prison sooner or later for being considered antifa. Too late for a peaceful approach.

I was very active last year with being an organizer with 50501 and Indivisible in my city. Ig people need an outlet, but no one I met wanted to do something more then help for the next protest. The leader of my city Indivisible stated they would only do events that national approved. 50501 dissolved because they were too paranoid to be in public.

    Scenario:

    Me: throws molotov

White Americans: "See, these immigrants are violent! He's probably a CCP member. Lets deport all the Chinese! "

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Chinese_sentiment_in_the_United_States Am I supposed to do things that would provoke more incidents to this wiki-page?)

I mean, first thing would to hide my identity and try not to be caught. Have other like minded inviduals. Do it when theres more people around to hide from authority. Idk. I dont have the answers but peaceful protests havent done anything. The admin just keeps getting worse and worse.

On the assumption you're American, where's your molotov?

If you aren't, you really don't understand what you're asking. Most people would have to drive hours or days to be anywhere worth rebelling, lose everything they care about in the process of just not showing up for work regardless of actions taken, and do it all alone because everyone else is under the same threat. All against the most powerful military in the world.

The US is big. Someone in LA coordinating with someone in NYC is culturally and geographically similar to someone in Barcelona Lisbon coordinating with someone in Berlin. And they have safety nets.

Barcelona and Moscow are closer to each other than LA and NY, fyi

Otherwise, I totally agree with you.

Oops, you're right. I meant Lisbon, not Barcelona. Dat American education right?

Edit: To clarify, the first time I cooked up this relationship (copying someone else), Lisbon to Berlin was what I landed on. Barcelona to Moscow also works.

What are you suggesting here? The no kings protests have shown how the opposition to this tyranny can be shown peacefully rather than through violence. Any publicity is good, its spreading the message in a peaceful manner and changing peoples mind to the regime without violence. Thats pretty good, really. Sure it's not changing anything over night, but at least they're building momentum and doing something rather than nothing at all.

Like all countries where this has happened before, it all depends on which side the military chooses. The outcome will be decided by a couple of generals.

I wouldn't be surprised if imposing martial law led to a series of events that culminated in a civil war.

Unless someone with opportunity eliminated Trump from office by one means or another immediately after he sent the order. This would probably be the best path to avoid having the country rip itself apart.

I have a feeling that an actual martial law declaration would be enough to motivate a general strike.

This actually happened when early nationalists tried to overthrow the Weimar Republic in interwar Germany. Some old generals and their men took over the capital and declared themselves in charge of the country. A general strike was declared, and the whole country shut down. The generals were then left "in charge" of a totally shut down society. Needless to say, the coup lasted a short enough time that it's usually not even mentioned in world history lessons. This whole event pre-dated Hitler's first beer hall putsch by like a decade or something, if memory serves.

There is a cult of personality around him that others cant seem to replicate though. I wouldn't be surprised if that left some of his zealots politically rudderless. That being said someone who doesn't talk like a dipshit might re-attract the more moderate Republicans even if all the decision making is consistent

With the Democrats being lame ducks, the Republicans being mindless yes-men without a spine, and SCOTUS being mostly bootlickers, I guess you'll end up with martial law.

That's not what "lame duck" means.

A lame duck is a politician who is currently in office but is not eligible for re-election due to term limits. A second-term president is the classic example. Being in power and yet guaranteed to soon not be alters the power dynamic and priorities of said politician.

Donald Trump is a lame duck; in his second of two terms.

I agree that the term "lame duck" is used differently in politics, nonetheless the Democrats are lame ducks in the common use of those words.

The only "common use of those words" is what the captain posted. I have never heard that term used in any context outside of someone that holds a position, political or otherwise, that will be gone soon, either from term limits, because they lost or didn't run in the last election, or got fired/replaced/quit, but the new person isn't in the position yet.

You used it wrong. You can learn from the person that responded to you or you can double down and try to invoke a little-to-never used definition, but everyone will know you just used it wrong.

Are you talking about the "tread on me daddy" party? The party of "over my cold dead hands" re-elected president "take their guns first, due process later". Don't expect them to stand up for their "values", because they don't have anything past party power and hurting the outgroups.

The people of the United States would lay down like beaten dogs and take it. The US military would gleefully and joyfully go along with it, because that's always what they've done.

  • From what I've seen so far, the people of the US would go along with it.

They haven't marched on the White House en masse to remove him after Trump was revealed to be a rapist, then a child rapist. Nor when his gestapo were murdering people in the street. Nor when children were being teargassed, or trafficked by them. Nor as people are wasting away (and sometimes dying/being murdered) in his gulags, citizen or not. Nor when he openly flaunts his corruption. Nor when he comes within a gnat's whisker of starting WWIII!

It won't just be MAGAts that aren't trusted when Trump finally dies, it'll be the US as a whole, given what's been accepted by the population in general, MAGat, or not. The line in the sand is constantly redrawn. People referring to the protections offered by the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights after Trump is gone - as if they're in some way superior to other countries - will be looked at derisively, because nothing was done to protect people's rights, nothing was done to apply penalties for those in power breaking the law.

Hundreds of millions of people tweeted, marched, and wrung their hands while the worst leader in the free world fucked you all in the ear and took your money. And that was pretty much it.
