Sure, its still federation. But in my opinion, its contrary to its philosophy of user control.
If your "anti-abuse" security requires your software to be closed source, then your software is not secure. Well built software can be open source, and still secure.
You imply that your code could not prevent abuse if it was known, so, no offense, but that code must be pretty bad!
I like the fediverse because it distributes power. I, as a user, have the power to choose my instance, choose my moderation, choose the structure that my social interactions are built upon (threads based, microblogs, etc) and if I dont like something, I have the power to change it. Thats why open source is such a perfect fit to that model. Closed source federation then, sounds to me like you didnt get it.
Jami is an old project, they have been around wayy before LLMs.
You know, I was convinced AI software would never be able to build big complex software projects because of its rather sloppy coding style, but times have clearly changed.
I also worry if the situation turns clone hostile. Just this week, there was an article of somebody reverse engineering their samsung tv using AI(claude I think?), and then they got banned from it! And also this week, Anthropic added a new rule to their harness that disallowed replicating existing games. If this continues, we dont need lawmakers to make this sort of endevour next to impossible. So I suppose: Build it, while they let you!
Thanks for your work.
It really feels like the end of software projects, proprietary or open, since anyone can recreate basically any software alone, in a short amount of time. I think this marks the end of the licensed proprietary software business model.
The biggest new feature for me is hidden in the middle of the changelog:
Client to Server API support!!!!! Awesome!
True interoperability between traditionally incompatible projects (like different types of social media) may be the biggest advantage the fediverse has, so why isnt this the default for all fediverse software? Why did the big players in the fediverse make their custom incompatible APIs?
Anyway, great work!
Well... its a medical study. They are usually unreadable to a layperson. I didnt want to link to an article claiming it, since you wanted a source. But the claim that nicotin causes cancer is not really contested. There are lots of studies on it. Here is another one.
I linked it in my other comment, here it is again: Harmful effects of nicotine
it is, sadly.
I also use the browser version. Perhaps your instance has disabled it?
qtox is p2p but can relay messages over dht.
Then there is also jami.
