I’m complaining because voting is important.

The US and Great Britain genocided entire continents, using bourgeios democracy, IE the parliamentary / representative voting system you hold so dear. Its proven to be the safest shell for rule by a capitalist minority, with the added benefit of making people think they actually live in a functioning democracy, rather than a completely rigged system.

In the past 30 years or so, the PRC lifted more people out of poverty, than any other country in human history. This is probably the most significant acheivement in modern times, carried out by committed communists carrying out massive, nationwide poverty alleviation campaigns.

This last month, we added community vote settings to 1.0.0 to allow communities (and not only site admins) to set preferred voting settings. We've also added various RSS, OAuth, and security fixes to the lemmy back-end, and lots of UI fixes for 1.0.0.

We set up Lemmy 1.0.0 with production data on beta.lemmy.ml, to help write more detailed upgrade documentation as we go through the process ourselves. It's also exposed various performance related bugs, which we've been fixing.

A special thanks to everyone helping find bugs on voyager.lemmy.ml, and running these test versions and opening issues. You're making Lemmy better software.

As we get closer, we'll set a hard date for the 1.0.0 release (at least a month in advance), so as to give all app and client developers a date to switch over / support the new API.

We're still readying the 1.0 release, which you can keep track of by watching the milestones below:

Here are all the changes from October:

An open source project the size of Lemmy needs constant work to manage the project, implement new features and fix bugs. Dessalines and Nutomic work full-time on these tasks and more. As there is no advertising or tracking, all of our work is funded through donations. Even so there is barely enough time in the day, and no time for a second job. The only available option are user donations.

To keep it viable donations need to reach a minimum of 5000€ per month, resulting in a modest salary of 2500€ per developer. If that goal is reached we can stop worrying about money, and fully focus on improving the software for the benefit of all users and instances. We especially rely on recurring donations to secure the long-term development and make Lemmy the best it can be.

Its a feature of the markdown library we're using in lemmy-ui (markdown-it) called linkify.

IMO the benefits of it outweigh the negatives. Its nice to be able to just type hexbear.net or something without having to add the https:// every time.

This last month, we've been working on Oauth fixes, various security fixes in the lemmy back-end, and a few front end fixes. We've also been working on Jerboa (our android app), to get it compatible with the new 1.0 API.

We're still readying the 1.0 release, which you can keep track of by watching the milestones below:

    From the README:

Pausing popular torrents isn't something that qBittorrent handles well. This library uses 2 criteria to pause / stop torrents.

They are stopped if they are:

    • Popular (IE have a lot of total seeds), and
    • You've given back more than what you've taken (IE a seed ratio > 1)

    Requirements

    • Rust
    • A qBittorrent server.
    • An API key generated through the web UI.
    • A crontab where this script can be periodically run.

    Usage

This will pause torrents with a ratio >= 2, and more than 10 total seeds.

    cargo run -- \
    --api-key API_KEY \
    --endpoint ENDPOINT \
    --ratio 2 \
    --total-seeds 10

Last month there was not much activity, as we both took holidays. As of September we're back to work, and continue polishing 1.0 for release. We are also publishing a new beta version: 1.0.0-beta.2 with all the bug fixes from the past two months.

We've also released another lemmy 1.0 beta: for those who would like to test.
