I'm the type that doesn't consider burning down the city I live in and destroying public property is the path to progress. France's economy is already strained and guess who'll have to pay to rebuild everything? Hint: It's not the elites

It might be cathartic to burn down your house because you don't like your landlord but it doesn't solve anything

I find it amusing that there's a lot of sympathetic comments on this post putting a face on the consequences of these riots but on the other post showing a police car in a crowd all the comments were proud of the rioters.

I'm all for showing numbers and voicing our concerns but we're just punching sideways when there's a riot. I find it sad that people here on Lemmy side with the rioters

Unreal Engine is very much set up for a specific workflow and makes assumptions about how it will be used.

I don't want to defend Epic but have you used Unreal at all?

Theres a ton of different ways to use the engine. You can use blueprint for everything, which works, but coding it yourself can give better performance. Using the (sometimes pretty subpar) default nodes in the material editor works but writing your own HLSL materials or nodes can give better performance. Do you rely on lumen and nanite to "solve" your 5 billion poly objects or do you optimise them yourself?

Don't blame the instrument when the music is bad.

This is very faulty logic, Unreal is a tool. A tool that's very easy to use (and abuse) which allows devs to launch half-baked projects. It's mostly on the devs to optimize a project, epic can't do anything about that
