We might be wise to see the real headline here: American intelligence is getting... stupid. As more resources get poured into near-literal witch hunts, wildly unreliable tools become routinely abused, competent staff continues getting cut, and some absolute dipshits keep filling decision making roles, the ability to keep some pretty intense existential threat vectors at bay looks to be getting very uncomfortably diminished. I'm no fan of the American intelligence community myself, nor of any state in general anyway, but we might want to consider the consequences for all of us if a generally competent intelligence community protecting a state with an apocalyptic amount of nuclear weapons starts getting... stupid. I'm worried enough about the instability in Russia and Putin's growing paranoia.

The dipshits making decisions are there partly because of the easily deceived dipshits who vote for them, but even moreso because they are willing puppets of the ruling class. The primary process and unlimited outside spending weeds out the less corrupt before they get too close to the levers of power.

Oh ok, hundreds of millions of people if not billions of people are "extremists" for not wanting to have their lives entirely upended by AI? For a relative few people to make an extreme profit from it.

The ones pushing the AI project so tenaciously on everyone are the ones with an extreme position, so much so that people are united against AI, across such culturally divided political lines. Anti-AI / Anti-data center is one of the only political issues where the regular population is in near unanimous agreement.

News, "The armed deputies known as law enforcement will ride in to defend the "extreme" actions and worldview of the AI oligarchs."

AI will then crush the lives of people who do "law enforcement," too. The boot will also step on lawman.

ROFL. The people most likely to dislike AI and actively work against it love tech. This is the most backward thing you can say. These are the people who build jelly fin servers and make their own VPN's and (used to) build gaming rigs. These are the same people who heard that the US wanted to ban routers and were like "we'll make our own with blackjack and hookers".

That is how they see it. They will willingly shoot these “bad” people. Law enforcement is in direct opposition to individual liberty. It’s tragic because that phrase is a favorite of those that blindly support law enforcement. An American flag with a blue stripe is NOT an American flag. It is the opposite. Freedom and fascism are mutually exclusive.

One can only hope that there really is a network of people ready to fire bomb these places.

Which brings up the question. How do you bypass the surge suppressors for a data center and cause a power spike that destroys all the ai chips. Asking for a friend.

  • source
  • hideshow 4 child comments
  • [–] 6 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Just thinking out loud but going after the power seems like a bad approach. Instead you should target the cooling infrastructure. Not sure what you could throw in the air intake to do maximum damage, but I think that's going to be a lot easier to damage than the power would be. Either that or you get clever on the power side. Don't try to do a big spike, instead stress the failovers. Rapidly alternate between low voltage (maybe connecting a massive power shunt across the incoming line) to trip the backup power and normal voltage to get it to switch off of the backup. I'd bet it would handle rapidly swapping back and forth a lot worse than one big spike.

PSA, it's a really bad idea to mess with the kind of high voltage lines that feed these data centers. That's a really good way to end up dead in a very painful manner.

No, I don't think that will do anything but mildly inconvenience them.

We had these chiller units at the lab I used to work at. They are built like a tank, the only vulnerable part is the two pipes carrying water in and out of the building. Plus our security people insisted we surround the chiller with a twelve foot fence topped with barbed wire.

But even if you do shoot out one of the pipes, all that happens is an alarm goes off the and the system does and orderly shuts down. Our system was installed by the lowest bidder and failed all the time, no really problem.

So if you were to do this, all you have done is risk your life and liberty to mildly annoy the powers that be. You'd be more effective running for local government and cutting them off from the municipal water system.

Plus these building aren't wood, they are steel and concrete, you can't even burn them down. Only a transient power event, that overwhelms the surge protection would do any harm.

Say like covertly putting up a lightning rod and running a wire to the building.

But they know they are hated, and these places are well guarded. You will never get close to one. I just don't see a realistic way to do any damage except through the power line running into the building. Maybe via a substation.

As nice as it is to fantasize about this stuff, you're attacking a fortified fixed position. They know you are coming, and law enforcement and government is on their side. Seems like a suicide mission.

Yeah the best bet would be to attack the power lines and be a pain. Maybe attack road infrastructure in the area, for example if they have a bridge undermine it and let them have fun. But yeah the best bet would be to just push out pro AI local officials and then revoke permits and whatnot. Worst case scenario you can't get out of a contract but you can revoke police assistance and ban them from having security or something, would probably depend on how that type of shit works on the legal side of things which I am not familiar with.

Revelation 11:18 in the King James Version states: "And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth."

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as Butlerian Jihad heats up

  • source

[–] 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 child)

Trump's counterterrorism czar, Sebastian Gorka, released a public counterterrorism strategy claiming that left-wing extremists are one of the three top counterterrorism priorities facing the United States.

Here’s what the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) says about extremism in the United States: Left-Wing Terrorism and Political Violence in the United States: What the Data Tells Us

While left-wing political violence is “on the rise”, historically, political violence in the United States comes from the Right. Incidents of left-wing violence also tend to have “low lethality rates”.

    What Is to Be Done?

“First, the government should avoid overreacting with crackdowns on peaceful organizations, which will serve to strengthen extremist views.”

“Second, it is important to resource all dimensions of the terrorism threat. Left-wing terrorism is a Trump administration priority, but jihadist terrorism also remains a concern even though it has declined. Right-wing terrorism could come roaring back, especially if in 2028 there are complaints of a “stolen election” or similar incendiary claims.”

“Finally, although leaders are not responsible for extremists in their midst, they are responsible for how they behave toward extremists. U.S. political leaders and activists need to lead by condemning violence on their side and calling for calm when it involves violence on the other side.”

Do these sound like the priorities of the Trump administration?

Opposing the genocide of brown people? Extremism.
    Opposing nakedly corrupt fascism? Extremism.
Opposing omnicidal destruction of the climate for the benefit of a few oligarchs' pockets? Extremism.
Opposing having your livelihood stolen and the creation of an Orwellian panopticon all rolled up into one? Believe it or not, extremism!

Huh, it's almost as if the ghouls controlling the definition don't have the People's best interests at heart.

(Oh, and also: attempting a coup in order to install a dictator? Somehow, not extremism.)

  • source
  • [–] 6 points 5 months ago* (5 children)

The report flags a video from the progressive nonprofit More Perfect Union on the destructive effects of a data center to nearby residents in Georgia. Nothing in the video advocated for violence against property or people. But thanks to fusion center targeting, the advocacy group is now circulating among US intelligence and law enforcement across the country as a potential threat vector.

I can't tell if they're keeping the existence of real leftist opposition on the downlow, or if the natsec state is so full of loyalists that there's no one left who understands how the world actually works. Surely they must understand that going after libs for this stuff does risk radicalizing some of them? How many lib groups have to be targeted before the libs start waking up, and stop expecting to Vote their way out of this mess? The groundswell of opposition to AI and surveillance is growing, and I don't think this will stop it.

I think what's happening here is that the US is transitioning into mask off fascism stage of capitalism. It's just going to be naked repression going forward. There's already mass surveillance and militarized police force in place, and the state will simply start breaking up any attempts to form a labor movement, they will jail or murder organizers, violently put down protests, and so on.
