Ah, have you just solved one of the main limits i have for syncthing. I didnt know about this filebrowser quantum thing. My use case is that i have a keepass file i manage with my wife between devices and on the same laptop (two different debian logins). But really, but is the purpose of this tool? To replace your local kde dolphine for example? Trying to understand the usecase.

Been using syncthing for a year now and works great for syncing between devices. But i miss file sharing with family members that nextcloud allowed me to do. Yet i left ut because it was too bloated and every update at the time broke my instalkation. Is there something a mature and specialised as syncthing but that allows sharing between accounts?

Ok, that sounds neat. I have a large dataset shared with proxmox to save snapshots of the VMs. Is there a setting in proxmox that will prevent it hanging if the share goes down? Also, if i have 5 services on vm, do i need 5 top level datasets on TN or can i nest in a "proxmox_services" datset, which would be easier to maintain and setup for replication, rsync, etc?

Concept is really interesting. Somehow i feel i've read of similar attempt in the past. Is this some sort of federverse for identity and money? What i don't understand is the money bit. Presumably you buy sovs just like you buy bitcoins? Who handles the money? How do you get the joe blog to trust this model and spend their sovs? I am no it specialist btw ..

i'm getting a lot of emails from my bank and other services that make me aware that they use tracking pixels in emails. apparently they are obliged by the privacy regulator that is enforcing a recent EU directive. i didn't even know that i was sending ip and client info simply by reading my emails in thunderbird or k9 on my mobile. is there a way to deactivate these? and is there a risk that by doing so the bank thinks the email is compromised or non existant. its incredibile to see how sophisticated data hoovering technology has become. the internet has become a real mess ...

I have Truenas Scale as a file repository. Then Proxmox on seperate machine but same network. On Proxmox I have VM withe several services. Some of these store several GBs of data so i would lime to mount datasets to Proxmox. What is the best wat of doing this? Mount a single nfs share to proxmox and the mount this share in the vm or should i mount the truenas daraset directly in the vm? The latter semms simpler? My.main cincern is avoiding disasters on services, vm and proxmox il nas goes offline for whatever reason. Is there a way to deal with this risk?

I do about a monthly update of my Debian machines. Today I did the usual monthly update and noticed loads of packages uploading from the "security" branch. I've had the impression (just an impression) that more and more packages are being updated from security over the past many months. Trixie has been out for a while now and I would have thought that less and less updates should be coming from security. Has anyone had this sensation and if so has anyone linked this to AI finding more holes in OSS that would have normally been found by human scrutiny? Has there been any official research into this? And if this is true, does it mean that we have been running insecure software all along? Or is there is there a risk that AI start filing patches that actually make it less secure because software maintainers are not being rigorous in verifying who is submitting the patch? AI must be changing the paradigm of software development more than any other area of our lives and I can't still work out if in a better way or not.

Hi folks. I have quite a bit on land with orchard of varies fruit aolive trees. I'm finding i would benefit from keeping a database of which tree gets what treatment, what fertilizer, how much produce i get, etc. Has anyone thought of such a tool? I use Joplin notes but its not as elegant, plus my sons are getting into it too now so multiuser woukd be cool.

This is interesting and i'm already wondering how to fight this war. AI is really useful if used in the right way, like search engines once were. But how do you trick these systems to not profile you? I don't have any chatgpt account and only use the browser. Chatgpt has already told me it fingerprints the session but cant tell its me unless i tell it. Ha ha ... isn't a browser plugin that changes the fingerprint each session going to help? Also, how do i tell the browser to stop dishing out my data e.g. browser version, os version, etc.?

I've now managed to get the stream of my HiWatch Series, model HWI- T641H-Z 2.8-12 mm by accessing via browser to rtsp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@192.168.30.50:554/Streaming/Channels/101. Working nice. But on its own, very unusful unless I get storage and image detection going. So, I need something like Frigate.

I believe the Frigate docs suggest running in a docker container installed on a VM. Very convienient as I have Proxmox (installed on a optiples 7070 micropc with 32MB ram) running a VM on which i have a few containers. The idea is to mount a "frigate" dataset created on my Truenas server on Proxmox which is then mounted to the VM. Lots of layers but hoping it should be ok.

I heard that the Google Coral TPU is not sold anymore. Is this going to be a problem for Frigate image recognition? Are there alternatives to the Coral TPU?

I think a couple of months ago I found out about Dawarich here on this community as the author posted here. I installed a couple of days ago on a VM I run and have been impressed so far. I started logging track 10 years ago when I found out about OsmAND and never really knew what I would do with those tracks until I discovered Dawarich. Interesting piece of software. With the "trips" function, it reminded me of my trip to Scotland and all the places I had seen on which day.

Now the challenge is to understand why Owntracks feeds it a couple of points a day and only when I'm at home. I thought Owntracks would log locally on mobile phone and then download everything on Dawarich when it was back online on the VLAN at home (i don't have external access setup and don't want to for now). Is this some server side problem or a app problem? I've not changed the default settings of either the Dawarich server or the app. Any clues? I was goign to try the Dawarich android app but its not on f-droid so will need to wait until it is (strictly on GOS and no Google where I live ;-)

"Lehane admitted people would not “feel great” about the threat of attacks, and described the risk as coming from open-source models – many of which are developed in China – which are only a few months behind frontier closed models built by companies such as OpenAI."

This is not an attempt to securley pause AI development but rather a not so subtle way of attacking ooen source?

What a surprise when i discovered that you don't seem to need to backup Whatsapp messages any more. They apper to be stored on Meta servers. I'm sure it was not like this in the past? My wife left her GrapheneOS phone on the roof of the car and drove off. I managed to recover it but it had been ridden over by i car. So boight another pixel and installed Whatsapp again. She can't live without it as all her clients are on there. When i setup Whatsapp on new phone, all messages appered again, just like that. Spooky ... I think in the past it wasn't like that?

Hi, installed the gramps web container using the default installation with this docker file where the only thing I changed was the port number. Having read this it woudl appear that I need not do anything unless I want to build a multi-tree environment (not my case for now).

When I import the *gramps file I have from the desktop version, it says database is locked. I get internal server error if I try setting a Home Person under "Family Tree" which looks pretty empty at the moment.

There seems to be an option to unlock the database here but this stuff seems to be related to the desktop app rather than the web app. Any thoughts?

EDIT; Makes no difference whether I'm doing the above as administrator or contributor user.

EDI2: not sure if this made a difference but changed the GRAMPSWEB_TREE: to match the tree name I have in the desktop app and now it did import. Must be the fact that it is configured as single tree and it expects the tree name that is being imported to match the tree name that is registered in the yaml file.
