Might wanna change the flag for EA....
post
Roblox fascinates me as someone who casually knows it. There's a huge ecosystem there just sitting inside a bigger gross child exploitation ring.
Billions of money sifting through kids hands while adults play simulation games with hardcore rules
Or so I'm led to believe.
Why aren’t the “game focused” companies within Sony, Microsoft, etc. listed on here?
Microsoft is about $3.9B BTW... Per another chart.
You can make the argument that they do not belong because their primary businesses are Windows, Office, and AI. But if you're looking for them because of Xbox, Bethesda, Mojang, or their other brands, that is where they would rank. Between NCSoft and NetMarble, with a USA flag.
Edit: ~4B$ seems way low for Microsoft... I dunno what I was thinking. Leaving the mistake for context. Maybe I meant $3.9T? But again that's not just gaming. Gaming is a drop in the bucket for them and Xbox is failing and Bethesda has sucked for like 10 years or more now, closer to 15 if we're honest. Mojang (Minecraft) is successful and Obsidian is killin' it, but in the grand scheme of things? Microsoft doesn't matter here.
According to this source Microsoft has $23B revenue for gaming only.
I am surpised that mojang isn't here
They're owned by Microsoft? Would you expect BioWare to have it's own entry outside of EA, too?
Honestly thought Ubisoft was the biggest European games company, but it ain't even close.
Where's Valve?
On a list of non publicly listed companies I would imagine
lol Ubi. Why are they still treated as one of the big ones? Like Mojang alone is probably way more valuable than Ubi in total. They basically double A now and they should probably focus on double A productions. Also their market cap is even lower today they are a sub billion euro company now.
Is Groombox actually that big or is it based on what the CEO says it is worth? I remember reading some ridiculous statements about their net worth.
so i only know roblox from few memes, how are they worth almost as much as nintendo? wtf?
I have kids. Roblox is fucking huge man, all kids seem to have played or play Roblox. 40 million game variants and it's a micro transaction hellscape. Some kids ask for Robux (in game currency) for Christmas/Birthday and that's all they play or do. It's truely insane.
It's the reason it's a haven for child predators, children flood the system. So it's a "target rich" environment. Pretty sad but that's why it's worth a ton. Micro transactions and massive player base.
As of February 2025, the platform has reported an average of 85.3 million daily active users. According to the company, their monthly player base includes half of all American children under the age of 16.
oh my...
Roblox is insane in scale & mostly invisible to anyone older than 23. Right now, some of the peak 24hr concurrent on Steam charts is:
- CS2: 1.5m
- DOTA2: 1.2m
- PUBG: 670k
- ARC Raiders: 420k
- Rust: 235k
These are insane, but Grow A Garden regularly has 2m concurrent every weekend. Adopt Me or Brookhaven can have north of 1m on weekend, especially if they update. Roblox Concerts regularly have 2m or more.
I have 3 kids, and I worked at a well-known Roblox video game company (Top 5). People in our generation just do not know, unless they have kids and definitely know.
Lots and lots and lots of kids play roblox, and use mommy and daddy's money to buy microtransactions.
Maybe try and think of ... Roblox is to Gen A what Pokemon was to Millenials, or Minecraft to Zoomers.
But probably significantly bigger.
Crazy that CDPR is on the list even though they make like 2 games per decade.
I would have guessed that Paradox would be at least $5b, where did all that money for vic3 dlcs go?
Roblox and Nintendo are both slum lords in their own way. Maximizing profits at the expense of their users.
Roblox targets Gen A children, Nintendo targets Millennial man-children and Millennial casual/cozy/cutesy girl gamers.
I'm not even trying to be rude, that just actually is the most succinct way I can describe the target market demographics for each company.
While estimates are difficult to do, because Valve is not a public company, in 2022, it was estimated at at least $7.7 billion, with that almost certainly being a significant underestimate.
If you do some napkin math between their 2022 total revenue and this low total value figure, and just carry that ratio forward to 2025, Valve's low end total value estimate would be ~$9.6 billion, which would make them rank 8th on this list, just under Krafton, and above Squeenix.
