I have no idea how Bernie has kept fighting the good fight in the face of 60 years of seeing the worst of humanity constantly try to fuck everything up. He's a better man than I am.

Not trying to butter you up, but if I could speak for him I would say you may surprise yourself by the end.

I suspect that exercising good will in the face of endlessly variable forms of human selfishness is in many ways like learning to run marathons. Until you’ve run that distance, it seems like a superhuman effort, but in hindsight you can’t imagine enjoying anything more. You do it because you like it. It becomes its own reward.

I’m just saying I think you’re capable of a more of the good fight than you might give yourself credit for, and we all need to be reminded of this from time to time.

Republican legislators keep getting away with awful shit. I don't see there being a change whenever they vote for extremely unpopular bills because they have an R next to their names. In the eyes of the average brain dead voter, that's good enough to keep endorsing them every time they drag their dumb asses to the poles. Ted Cruz should've been primaried after abandoning his constituents for Cancun during a snow storm but he's still around. Lauren Boebert should've lost her position after the Beetlejuice blow job but she's still in Congress. MTG's incompetence and bathshit crazy stuff she says about Jewish space lasers hasn't cost her anything yet. I could go on.

Meanwhile we have the DNC eating itself over anything that goes against the wishes of those at the top. Mamdani is practically unrecognized by the DNC establishment. Sanders faced the combined efforts of the Democratic party keeping him from getting a fair chance at the 2016 primaries. Al Greene was censured by his peers for rightfully calling out Trump on his Medicaid lies. AOC keeps getting snubbed in committee picks for geriatrics that die months later. It's so hard to stay positive in light of all the shit that keeps going on. I really want things to change for the better but it's so hard to keep holding on to hope.

Sanders will then say we need to vote for the party who gave us trump.

Yeah, problem is it’s still 16 months until Election Day, and 18 until the next Congress is seated. That’s a lot of time for this current government to continue to do harm. I really wish we had recall elections at the national level.

That's where the resistance has to last 16 to 40 months, slowing down and making people aware enough of these things:

    • how unserious about budgets Republicans are
    • how much they are trying to punish regular people (poor middle and moderately wealthy class),
    • while also looking to use the they are spending to subsidize companies, multi-millionaires and billionaires.

That conversation has to happen now as well. But the points I raised are related to despair of the Reconciliation bill passing and those climate setbacks.

Democrats' window of opportunity to change ahead of midterms is NOW until the primaries. (I've said my spiel about it before in this thread)

The Democrats needed to all vote against this bill. And I don't just mean in the Senate. The House too.

Because the last 2 dem presidencies choosing not to improve their constituants material conditions and instead send cops to kick the shit out of their most activated supporters while begging them for money and slaughtering brown people in the middle east is why 2 generations dont see the dem party as a means to enacting positive social change.

We need to stop being afraid of primarying shitty candidates.

We the people aren’t afraid of this, but if the establishment dems catch wind of a primary challenger who’s left of center, they will come down so hard on them with millions in DNC attic ads and literally try to cancel the primary if they have to to keep them out.

  • source
  • parent
  • hideshow 3 child comments
  • [–] 1 point 1 year ago* (1 child)

The key is to vote for the left of center candidate regardless of how much donors spend. Show them that we are going to vote for who we want and that they can't derail it no matter how hard they try. We need to get comfortable with saying "no thanks, we're good" when they try their bullshit. This is literally what happened with Mamdani, and why both the DNC and Republicans are freaking out about it.

  • source
  • parent
  • hideshow 1 child comment
  • [–] 1 point 1 year ago

Yep, do this every time. Unfortunately voter turnout in primaries is so abysmal that the ad spends seem to often work. By the numbers, the candidate who spends more money wins over 95% of the time. It’s a depressing reality that has led Dems down a very dark path of chasing donor money and abandoning their constituents in the process.

I’m apparently a freak of American politics and do basic due diligence to research beforehand if the primary is contested and find the most progressive contender possible, but I think most people just don’t give care enough to do this sort of thing and usually just vote for the name they see more on TV. So, I think increased civic engagement is another very important part of solving these issues.

We should invest in our electoral process and make it the envy of democracies around the globe, and as Americans, should be damn proud to do so.

It’s why Mamdani’s win was such a big deal. The establishment was all about Cuomo and they still aren’t lining up behind the voters pick.

The thing is it looks like the party will be happy to let their bigger names just refuse to endorse him. Media will spend the next few months attacking him for being a scary socialist. And the dnc will suddenly lose track of their “vote blue no matter who” bumper stickers and be happy to fundraise for cuomo as an independent.

I’m sure though they will send Mamdani and old button making machine or something so they can claim that “this is why we don’t run far left candidates, maybe next cycle we could run Liz Cheney instead!”

Give us proper open and honest primaries, bitches. This strong Dem isn’t falling for it any more. Represent the People, not your donors, or lose your jobs. It’s quite simple.

Absolutely. ICE should not feel safe getting out of their vans. Especially in Blue cities.

In Seattle one thing we've been doing is trashing the exit of the ice facility with those green scooters. Blocks their vehicles. Every little bit helps.

You're not wrong. America has used Gaza as a testing ground for their suppression and terror on population. The biggest difference is that Palestinians are united against their occupiers and even still are resisting the fascist Ethnostate of Israel. They have perfected their terror in drone and AI weapons.

We, we are not united. And we have too many liberals standing on the sidelines hoping the next vote will make things normal again.

As I said before in another thread. Voting is over. If these monster's worried about elections they wouldn't have supported this bill.

I truly believe now that all electronic voting machines are rigged. Only way we every have free and democratic elections is if we have paper back ups and rank choice voting. I now believe that Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham rigged their own elections. And hopefully we are going find out in a lawsuit that Elon Musk rigged the machines to help Trump win.

So Sanders unfortunately it's over there only way to turn us around and it isn't voting.

Here ya go. After seeing these reports, I had no doubts. They openly said it before the election. "Elon's the best he knows everything about those machines, he'll get us our win."

"If Trump doesn't win, I'm fucked." -Elon Musk.

Given the power and budget given to the New American GeStaPo, I doubt there will be anything like free and fair votes in the near future.

  • source

Yeah. The ballot box method is over guys. Any vote that's even close is gonna be "guarded" by ICE agents. They're about to hire every racist Trump supporter in every state with their budget. This is it. We are past the Rubicon and I can't even see it when I look back at the horizon.

This administration is not worried about votes.
