Trump Pandemic Response II: Electric Boogaloo

What’s an ICE agent to do with virus masking mandates???

Get ready for bleach and the light inside the body.

Great timing too, as fascism and anti-intellectialism grows and spreads. As the US is deregulating anything it can, threats of climate change become real... Many populations of birds and mammals are struggling to survive as it is, and throwing something this deadly into the mix doesn't just hurt humans from our own pandemic, but it becomes a food issue as well. It's a compounding issue. Even just birds, they eat bugs that are crop killers. So we're losing meat and produce.

Hopefully this time more of the idiots will kill themselves by spitting into each other's mouths when sick, or whatever other dumb ideas they come up with. That would solve a lot of problems for us.

There are reasons for optimism: vaccines and antivirals should be effective against avian influenza, and the world is far better prepared thanks to lessons learned from COVID, particularly in diagnostics and global surveillance.

    Oh you sweet summer child

The USA? No. The world as a whole? Probably.

Nah. On my 5 international flights around europe/middle-east this year I was the only person in mask.

Tbh, it took me like 2 covids, or whatever that was, to get back to masking in crowded places. And it’s hard to keep masking because social pressure is very much real.

This is stupid. We did not learn a thing

And governments plan to start reacting in 2028, and to stop caring in 2029

That's a very optimistic take on the lessons from COVID. Cause the lessons that I learned from political leaders was "Fuck the pandemic protections, the economy must be protected." and "Science is wrong about everything."

I'm sorry, you're still being too optimistic. Protecting the economy COULD include things like "free vaccines" or "wearing masks" to keep workers from getting sick. What I learned was "don't trust doctors or vaccines, all your body needs is Natural Immunity and veterinary medicine" is a real take shared by an alarming number of people.

    Maybe we deserve it.

INB4 anyone says, "I didn't vote for this" or "I don't deserve it" - what are you doing to change things? Holding up a sign? Peacefully protesting? Not shopping at Amazon?

    That doesn't move the needle.

Until the billionaires and corporations milking the country at our expense fear for their lives, nothing will change.

And, yes, I'm guilty too, because commenting on Lemmy does jack shit.

Connection to collapse is tenuous, apart from intensive mixed animal husbandry mostly in Asia encouraging crossover of animal pathogens and high-frequency long-distance travelling in high density environments encouraging rapid spread to pandemics. Both would appear to be self-regulating.

Great. If it stops people from taking planes and driving all over the fucking place, good. COVID maybe gave us 2 years more in the climate crisis. It changed our way of working for the better. It revealed the failings of our educational system and outed the idiots among us. Had COVID been deadlier, it would've killed way more idiots. Yes, of course there were many innocent people that died, but there were so many fuckwits who didn't take it seriously and that were lucky to have been dumb at the right moment...

Maybe but then it wouldn't have been as successful as it has as a viurs

I mean if you catch said deadky disease and next day you're on the ground bleeding out of your asshole, eyes and nose while convulsing, people will notice there is something wrong and it won't be as contagious. If you catch Covid now, you wander around and infect many others.
