Former Trump campaign chairman and White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told his podcast viewers that Republicans should take Tuesday night's losses to heart, saying: "The midterms start tonight, and the warning signs are flashing." He observed that "Democrats just flipped two Georgia commissioners," marking "their first statewide wins in 30 years."

Far-right influencer Mike Cernovich (who spawned the "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory) tweeted: "Ted Cruz and Mark Levin are walking Trump into impeachments and then prison. 2026 will be a blood bath." MAGA podcaster Jack Posobiec likewise warned that "2026 will be worse if we don't course-correct."

Never underestimate what the GQP will do to prevent anything resembling a fair election. They will purge voter registrations by the millions, gerrymander district maps to make them look like spider webs, and make registering and voting damn near impossible.

Republicans will burn the country to the ground to remain in power.

Georgia state election rigged by Republican election officials who wiped the servers clean after lawsuit and FBI investigation in 2017.

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/georgia-election-server-wiped-after-suit-filed

And of course, how can we forget about the Florida count being decided by the SCOTUS in favor of Bush when the count in fact showed Gore winning back in 2000!

Rigging and cheating elections is nothing new to the repugs.

And I always thought it should be more telling how the USA is run when you had George Bush, president, father of George Bush, president, but apparently people can't connect the dots.

A foreign war? They can try, but we don't cancel elections for foreign wars, and it won't give maga much of a boost in elections.

    A civil war against Americans?

I don't think they'd try, but if they did they'd fail. Like not just lose the war, they'd fail to start it.

Unarmed NG in a handful of cities is about all he can manage. Like, the only group he might be able to get to open fire on crowds is ICE, and even cops hate ICE more than they hate protesters.

If they thought they could do it, they'd have done did it by now.

They'll be a last minute desperate attempt, but nothing will materialize

    It's not just blind optimism...

There a lot, like a mind-blowing amount, of various reasons the US would be impossible to occupy, especially by a domestic force.

Like even protests, if they start cracking down we can just spread out.

Stop making protest happen downtown, and spread them out in the suburbs all around the city.

Spread the cops too thin, they'll be too scared to do anything. Especially if protesters have vest and rifles.

Republicans will burn the country to the ground to remain in power.

Why would they want to do this when each election they have a 50% fair chance of winning? The current system is as perfect for them as it could be, they cycle in power periodically through legal means

The GQP doesn't have anywhere near a 50% chance of winning unless they cheat, get activist judges to change existing laws, and flagrantly break the remaining laws. Because who's going to stop them, the Supreme Court?

Most Republican states have made voting harder since 2020.

Trump urged GOP-led states to redraw US House districts.

The Republicans have literally rigged the game and are making sure they are dealt winning hands, but your feelings tell you elections are completely legitimate and there's "a 50% fair chance of winning".

You completely ignored my comment, deny shared reality and supporting facts, then repeat the exact same nonsense. Are you Maga?

Steve Bannon? That chucklefuck is part of the problem. He shouldn't get a pass just because he's not one of Trump's besties anymore. If somehow Trump does end up in prison after all, Bannon should be in the next cell over, having to watch all of Trump's bowel movements through the bars.

At risk of sounding like I'm dick riding, Vance has all the cunning and charisma to fill the power vacuum. He's just lacking that "too stupid to talk to" quality that most Maga voters find relatable, but given the spotlight he could probably hit those notes they like.

It kind of is good Kirk got slimed because he's the only other I could think of that did all the poses they like and was also too stupid to be told anything.

Vance is politically quite savvy. He's shallow and inauthentic and I think he's smart enough to know that is a huge disadvantage following Trump. If he leans in to the memes, which it seems like he's already doing, he's a legitimate threat in 28. He's built a career on being groomed by maga goons and it's paid off so far.

It would be a fools errand to fight on that level with them. Just sink our politics further into the idiocracy farce.

Your last point, though, def. Look at 2008, look at the support for Bernie. Look at AOC, mamdani. They captured the excitement and won handily. Why was that? Because hey ran on real progressive change. Which people are desperate for. But the establishment, which includes the Democratic Party, will stop at nothing to keep people like that from winning. It ruins their big club.

Dems can make some huge gains if they have a working class message. Plan on holding Trump/ICE accountable for their actions and not be Israel simps. It isn't hard. Trump and Steve Bannon keep hinting at some plan if they lose so it won't be easy even with Trump being the worst.

Did you see the part where the defacto leader of the party didn't show up to his own press conference, so the reporters asked Bernie (who was just watching from the back) if he'd answer questions?

The Democratic establishment fought Mamdani (and progressives generally) along with Trump and the oligarchs and lost massively. Both parties are in chaos right now, because it's obvious that money is no longer enough to win elections, even safe ones

They're all going to be quiet for a while before the other shoe drops, hopefully the infighting will make it easier for progressives to rise to prominence

They had so many opportunities to learn their lesson since 2016 and every time they have refused. I'm fully expecting them to learn nothing again.

hopefully the infighting will make it easier for progressives to rise to prominence

This is the real and probably only hope. If progressives thrash the establishment dems hard enough, they'll at least pay lip service to them.

They will go to unimaginable lengths to learn the wrong lessons, don't get me wrong. And they're doing their very best

They're testing literally everything except being more progressive... Everything from working with MAGA and bringing out Obama

But none of their bizarre mixing and matching of everything imaginable, including testing fucking Hunter Biden for a presidential run, have paid off at all

I just think it's finally obvious, and urgent, enough that the leadership is going to turn over. At the end of the day, the leadership might be willing to go down with the ship over this, but the rank and file won't

Any progress is not going to come from the top of the Democratic Party down. They lead by following. They'll slowly, and at first, probably ineffectually, react to external events. In a year or so, they'll be claiming credit for anything Mamdani achieves. And the centrists will attempt a rug-pull whenever they get a chance.

What? Is he trying to gaslight the fact that both of Georgia's US Senators have been Democratic since 2020? One of whom was subject of intense media coverage for back-to-back runoff elections in 2020 and 2022 with the US Senate majority up for grabs?

I really hope we're even allowed to have an election in 2026.

No. A presidential election has never been postponed ... EVER. There were elections even during the Civil War.

Trump can try this route to stay in office... but he will not be president and his wartime rule will only be as strong as the guards around him. He will become a domestic threat to the Constitution if he tries to stay in office unelected.

Nope. When I said quietly, I meant it... This got very little media attention. Also, search is pretty much dead at this point, I can't find shit I read a week ago - there's too many results around Jan 6 no matter how specific I query it

But essentially, the top brass created a voicemail for trump, there's a bunch of deleted texts between the military and secret service, and then Trump was conspicuously absent during the handover process

My money was on Trump to start a war with Iran in March or April 2026, so things were ramped up before the elections. If the expected wartime popularity bump happens then just win the election, otherwise cancel then due to war reasons.

Any race where the parties were listed? Double digits in favor of the D. The only close race was the school board where party affiliations were specifically not listed for Reasons and you had to check the local party website to see who believed in democracy. And even that had the lone chud lose by about 5%.

My locals aren't the most representative since we are pretty solidly blue, but the large numbers of libertarians in town tend to keep it a close race. Not so much this year.
