I have two insane hellish days of work, then I can escape for vacation. I don’t know why work always has to be worst right before my escape, but i will get it done.

I’ve always done this. When I separated from my wife I spent a couple years living alone and since I work from home I was only seeing people like once a week. In that time period I lost my ability to filter this out when others are around

It’s now been years and I’ve maybe regained half of my ability to do this. It’s been pretty terrible

My house in the US (>100 yrs old) had neither of those things when I bought it. I did add them (including dryer alongside my washer in kitchen), but only because I eventually had enough money that I could. I was fine without them.

I’d probably fall into the mechanist category but I don’t think tests as I understand your description would be sufficient. A giant lookup table defining my responses for every situation in my life would pass all tests of input > output but not be conscious.

I would say it’s in all likelihood about the physical processes that occur during the process of input > output that would define it.

Of course, I have no idea what consciousness actually is, but I don’t see any compelling evidence that the current models are anywhere near there.

Best: companionship, I get very lonely when completely alone, even though I normally hate people

Worst: everything is a compromise which can breed resentment, especially when communication breaks down
