The basics of regulations get mentioned and stocks go down. That brings a smile to my face

It has got to be banned in educational settings as soon as possible. Then start drafting regulations for it as a whole.

Honestly, any mandatory use of some something that can generate dangerous, factually incorrect text and images should be absolutely forbidden. Government / public services shouldn't use them at all without automated checking that can operate at the same speeds and doesn't make those mistakes. Private organizations should be forced to provide all consumers as easy opt-out from using them.

Opt-in entertainment purpose should ALSO be regulated for safety. And, with "hallucinations" being mathematically impossible to eliminate, I'm not sure liability risk will leave an product people will want to afford.

Ok, but did they have to use Trump's "superintelligence" pet word in a sentence?

  • source

That's not what they did. "Artificial Superintelligence" is something the AI executives have been talking about. "Super Intelligence" is Trump's term for Artificial Intelligence because somehow an LLM appearing to be intelligent makes it not "artificial" in his mind.

I thought "artificial superintelligence" (ASI) is just another way to say AGI, rather than specifically Trump's forced buzzword.

It’s actually 3 things: agi is “like an average human”, asi is the self improving entity that is basically a god, and there’s normal ai (different kinds, most people only know LLMs/genai). Trump was so enamoured by the chatbot that he thinks it is super intelligent, hence the si.

I don't think Trump loves AI, his dementia heard, "People don't like artificial intelligence."

"I'll demand the word be changed! I am, after all, a marketing genius!"

ASI (artificial super [as in beyond human] intelligence) has been a research (and SciFi) topic for decades. Check out 'Person of Interest'for an easily accessible and somewhat prescient (in places) version.

The tech bros redefined the language to their advantage. LLMs barely pass the Turing test (but they do, in certain circumstances, where predicting the next word works)

Cheeto in Chief has no clue and a criminally uneducated populace (democracy requires education), even first pat the post.

Actual ASI is probably at least one and likely a few significant AI theory advancements away (but not that many years), and then it can self improve, which is the scary thing. The last thing we want is psycho/sociopaths in guiding that transition.

This tweet did nothing. The "AI" "industry" has always been a house of cards with none of the major players (outside of the chipmakers) coming anywhere near profitablity. This correction was overdue, investors were just looking for a sign and some are just using the excuse of democrats to finally get out.

Can I just say that this is blaming the prosecutor for going after the people that did crimes. She did not pop the bubble. They created the bubble by stealing creatives work and then firing all the creatives. Their enablers were fired, it was going to happen this week.

Well, yes, but the end result of her doing her very necessary job is undeniably an AI stock slump possibly crash. Rather I think we shouldn't treat it as any sort of negative thing that they collapse in the first place. After all, these firms created negative value. No sympathy for investors in this specifically.

ut the end result of her doing her very necessary job is undeniably an AI stock slump possibly crash.

no no no no... the slump / crash is them building a house of cards on stolen corpus that caused LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE to become more expensive.

If you can't build the new tech without thoroughly destroying the world, it's probably not fuckin worth it.

Well, look, if we believe the collapse is inevitable it certainly would be quite a coincidence to be concurrent with newly ellected US Lawmakers yelling as loud as they can on a public forum "WE'RE COLLAPSING THIS BUBBLE STARTING JANUARY".

I'd rather see regulations on how data centers are made, powered, cooled, and maintained. The IP stuff is only an issue because copyright is wielded against individuals and small business by organizations that regularly flaunt the rules. Copyright needs a complete restructuring and has at least since Disney completely fucked it 50 years ago.

Yup. Universal studios got control of Udio through a lawsuit and the only thing they did was slap copyrights on anything generated and stop you from downloading songs on free accounts. No one making the music used to train it got paid.

These copyright companies want to own it so it benefits shareholders. On top of that, putting a huge entry price on making a "legal" model suits big AI companies just fine since it kills open source models for business use.

It's hard to watch. Everyone is being manipulated into bootlicking the copyright industry.

    Here's a transcript:

nixCraft@mastodon.social: The tweet that crashed NASDAQ and AI stocks in the US and Asia. Lmao. I say bring on aggressive regulations for this AI bullshit. The first step must be forcing them to prove they obtained explicit permission for every single word, code and image they stole from others. We need to claw back every single penny from Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic and the rest who stole data to train their shitty AI. They were so happy so see job losses and acting like brats. Fuck all of them

Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari: Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.

The AIs they created were and are also basically the largest scale of fraud ever perpetrated on the people of the world. They told us it was intelligent. They told us it was super-intelligence. They told us it was conscious. They told us it was learning on their own. They told us it could do anything we ever dreamed of. They told us it would do all our jobs. They told us it was dangerous. They told us it could destroy the world. They told us that our enemies would use it. They told us it would accelerate exponentially. They told us it was the future.

It was all a scam, a disingenuous, dishonest fraud to bilk investors, governments, and ultimately the people of the world out of money that could've saved, fed, clothed, housed, healed, protected and supported millions, money that could've been used to slow down climate change, money that could've been used to deliver justice. Instead used to pile electronics into huge concrete boxes so they can burn fossil fuels for no good reason using loans to cover the losses of actually providing the services just so the illusion of these things being useful can be maintained. The money was just burned, tossed into jet turbines and turned into greenhouse gases and nothing else of value. Instead of helping with climate change, they contributed to it. For nothing. For selfish, myopic, temporary vanity.

We will never get that money back. We should try to claw it back from the crooks and the liars who took it, but I'm not naive, it won't work. They will not make amends. They won't be punished, not meaningfully. They are too big to fail. The economic growth must go on, no matter how fictional. The money is gone. And a big chunk of our future with it.

    What a waste.

The entire billionaire class (and a large chunk of multi-millionaires) got rich through financialization. That is rent-seeking through fraud. They hacked the economy and gave themselves mass riches without producing anything, and often causing a lot of destruction. We tried to pass laws to stop these shenanigans but then they captured government and repealed them.

In contrast, the gilded-age industrialists actually drilled oil, smelted steel and built cars. But this isn't at all to say they weren't nefarious. They were. And JP Morgan was known to be as ruthless as Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk. He even scared Carnegie a bit.

We really need to figure out how to push class consciousness. We need to recognize that our plutocratic class plundered their way to the top. Worse yet, they started of upper class, and just sought riches for sake of greed.

Let's just go forward on the premise they stole everything and thus all output from them is public domain, majority ownership of the AI companies should belong to everyone and use the money it earns from corps who use it to replace workers to pay everyone a universal basic income instead.

  • source
  • [–] 2 points 12 hours ago*

    Please fuck yes.

That should also happen to every single AI booster or any person that used AI for profit, and even for any person that used it "recreatively", because they are complicit in all the environmental, economic, human, and animal harm that AI, and the people behind it, have caused.

The retaliation must be relentless and merciless, because that is exactly how those bastards were.

First thing they should do is replace their leadership and get some people who actually know how a computer works. Everything else would follow.

You may hate AI here. I hate the current IP regime even more. What the quoted means in practice is giving more power to the big publishers. YouTube's is already bad enough. How easy can you ask permission from them every time you make unofficial art?

Fair use covers a lot of stuff if you don’t intend to sell it for billions. This is wholesale theft of literally every available pece of data and content, blended up and launched for billions - It’s the most outrageous IP theft possible.

I'm not giving up a single copyright (or other IP) protection until AFTER they are stripped from Disney, Amazon, and Google.

If we want to end the IP regime, I can probably cope, even though I depend on it a bit for CC-SA and AGPLv3 distribution. But, first "artificial persons" have to give it up before I or any "natural person" does.
