Man... Ed Sheeran and crew certainly showed him, lol
post
I don't know any of his songs, so I'm surprised he's so popular. But it's terrific that he's using that popularity for a good cause
If you know anything, it's probably Thrift Shop.
Can't Hold Us was everywhere for a while too, and he was (unfairly) mocked for Same Love. The dude comes across as corny sometimes but he genuinely stands on business. Hind's Hall from May 2024 and fucked up in February 2025 are loud and angry and righteous.
I don't like his music, but at least he's trying to do something that's worth doing.
I have been a staunch defender for years. He is the epitome of what people used to wishlist for their hiphop. In the culture. Self starter. Discussing actual issues. Pushing his producer up front. Independent.
His music isn't very everyone for sure but he has some great radio hits and some really good introspective stuff, the back half of the heist is brilliant and the follow up was very self aware.
On the right side of history
Music that's for everyone is music for no-one.
I mean, a lot of hip hop fans have some opinions about positive hip hop and the propensity for white guys to break out in that genre specifically.
Didn't he co.e out on stage dressed as a Jewish stereotype? Not disagreeing with h bow but he is not a good guy.
For which he immediately apologised, updated his website to include links to organisations that fight anti semitism and explained himself as best he could while not excusing it. He went on to say he only wanted respect put out into the world and mever meant for the three elements of the costume to do anything other than disguise him for a secret surprise show.
He could've been an italian stereotype, but italians don't tend to whine as much.
You can still donate through his website if you want tho. I only knew his thrift shop song so didn't think it would be worth it going.
Did you guys know he was on Sesame Street? It's awesome you should watch it.
We shouldn't downplay the suffering of any genocide relative to proportionality and much respect to Macklemore for remaining vocal about this, but I just want to bring proportional attention to another atrocity:
Trump, Musk, and all enabling Republicans are responsible for at least 600,000 deaths in just 1 year's time by the gutting of USAID known to have massive repercussions globally, and dwarfing the civilian death toll in Gaza and Ukraine, combined.
This matters because I still see a lot of people espousing false equivalence both sides bullshit on the eve of the US midterm elections. These deaths simply would not have occurred under a Kamala Harris presidency. Food for thought.
he looks soo corny ugh
You're right, he does. And I don't mean to take anything away from his music or message, but he looks absolutely ridiculous.
He's Cascadian Fred Durst.
Fred Durst is an asshole and genuine moron.
Yeah, he's from Florida...
Jacksonville even.
I want to go back to when the only thing I knew about Jacksonville was it the home of WJAX which was a really good Beautiful Music station circa 20 years ago - it's now WKTZ a 'Christian Family Radio' station (hate speech and anti-lgbt under the guise of 'family programming' I assume)
Everything else I've ever heard about that place - jfc.
Lots of people making a big bag off the Gaza Grift
It's really sad to see the infection of not reading has spilled over to Lemmy. Maybe Meta or TikTok are more your speed?
The three concerts were organised as benefit events, with all funds going to 12 Palestinian supporting organisations, including Medical Aid for Palestinians, Jewish Voice for Peace, Palestinian Youth Movement, Institute for Middle East Understanding and Glia.
Nonsense. Macklemore lost money for supporting Palestine.
Yes bitnit is jot like he is a good person or does everyone forget he dressed up as a Jewish stereotype and went on stage? At this point I don't believe any of them with opps I didn't know.
It must be really confusing for you, having all your friends and peers disagree with you on a political level. Do you think everyone hates you, or just your opinions? Does it make you sad?
While this is great, I just want to bring attention to how regular citizens get arrested and charged with terrorism for peacefully protesting and shouting, "Free Palestine!"
Did the audience clap and cheer him? If so, the Metropolitan Police are going to need a bigger bus.
Laws are only for the poor who are ignorant of them and can not pay for lawyers. The judges will always make exceptions for their kind--the ruling class.
They haven’t arrested him yet? I’m asking a serious question because it seems any positive action towards Palestine is deemed terrorism there.
Yes, this was my comment on this post, elsewhere: While this is great, I just want to bring attention to how regular citizens get arrested and charged with terrorism for peacefully protesting and shouting, "Free Palestine!"
It absolutely is, and you should absolutely fight that. And I'm also here to fight that with u so hit me up whenever
The Israel lobby tried to get him banned from the UK in a house of lords letter but failed.
Children in Gaza are OUR Children? How ANTI SEMETIC!
