Every day that he lives is a tragedy

One of my teachers in a humanities related field said she had a dream where people were running through the street and making tons of noise at like 2 am that woke her up, and they were just screaming “HE’S DEAD! HE’S DEAD!!”

So that’s how people in the humanities are doing, if anyone was curious.

I might actually relapse that day- not fully, just with a glass or two of champagne. I think that's a celebration worthy of a drink despite the eight years of sobriety.

There are good sparkling NA options so you can have a special, celebratory drink without breaking the streak. Also, congrats on 8 years!

Cheers mate, thank you. I definitely enjoy those options from time to time and will likely stick with them. I don't think I could sacrifice the best thing I've ever done for myself, even in celebration of the planet being a bit lighter.

Nah, man, ain't nothing worth relapsing. My brother is a drunk, and has never tried to seriously get sober to my knowledge. If he ever did, I wouldn't encourage him to drink under any circumstances. It's a slippery slope for people who have a problem with alcohol.

He's really not worth it... and that's coming from another who understands the good fight.

Maybe another cheap(ish) thrill of a lottery ticket? Or get your adrenalin going another way, such as with a bike ride, or a bush walk 🤷‍♂️ just thinking out loud, hopefully that's okay.

I think every option other than Trump is better than him simply because the popular mandate can't be had by a freak like Miller, it can't be had by a rizzless baffoon like Vance, a stuffy devil in a suit like Vought, a sniveling gremlin pedophile like Lutnick, or a out and about Jewish Supremacist like Kushner. The only person I worry about being in charge is Tucker Carlson. Given how the world only ever seems to get worse, I think this would be the end result. Most of my predictions are true by imaging the worst possible scenario. The only upsides to him is that he's made a lot of enemies, but I think he's demonstrated his ability to lie his way into power and I don't think that would be a saving grace for us at all, we'd probably be fucked, and he's definitely smart enough and charismatic enough to achieve most of his white supremacist goals. The best case scenario is Trump having a stroke while complaining about Tucker being a traitor.

I suggest a horrible debilitating stroke that makes it impossible for him to move or talk while in unbelievable pain for every moment. He gets every treatment recommended by RFK which hopefully includes bleach. Ideally it will be nearly impossible to sleep, but enough so he is able to fully experience it. Hopefully the medical professionals will be able to keep him alive like this for years, ideally a decade and then finally someone will have the compassion to pull the plug so he finally starves to death.

It's entirely possible he could flee given the investigations he's about to face. He knows what happens to pedophile in prison. And while his legal team, even though inept, will keep him from ever seeing the inside of a prison. That fear would be enough to make him flee.

Are enough Republican seats (that are likely to flip) even up for election to do that this midterm? I seem to remember that being a problem in 2018, that there was backlash but not enough Republicans up for election to make much headway.

the odds of democrats sweeping the upcoming senate elections, including every single one of the twenty-two republican-held seats, is as close to zero as you can get without actually being zero.

then on top of that, you have 'unreliable' ""democrats"" holding office which you can't count on to vote with their party of record.

so the net chance of the upcoming senate session being able to override a veto is zero. not gonna happen. hell, the democrats would be extremely lucky to hit 60 seats.

over on the house side, democrats might get a 5-10 seat advantage, they'll never get the veto-proof majority there either. way too much rigging of the vote and maps by republicants for that.

He certainly isn't Native American - they got genocided and ethnically cleansed (let's add those to the previous list too).

The majority of USians aren't Native American but USians they'll bitch about immigration when they're primarily a country of immigrants. The hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance is astonishing. It might be a symptomatic of the poor historical accuracy and relevancy taught in schools - they don't even realise who they are or where they come from.

I bet half of them will claim they're Irish too.

Someone who can trace their history back to another country can be classed as a product of immigration. That is what immigrants are.

You can say "but he was born here" but that means nothing if you're rascist like the GOP and hasn't stopped ICE deporting people who were born in the US and are citizens - they just happened to be non-white. Trump grandfather came over in the 1880s. He is of immigrant stock - he probably has less of a claim to being American than many other people on the continent . You might not want to believe it, or claim 14th amendment (which is fair, from a US legal perspective) but technically, every single white person is a product of immigration. Black, Latino or Asian too - it's not just white folks.

Trump is just closer to being an immigrant than many others - you could call him a 3rd gen immigrant. That is how he would be classed if he wasn't white.

I hope I'm getting across the point that most people in the world are of immigrant stock at some point or another and so it's really a non-argument that has deep-rooted rascist undertones whilst not taking into consideration history.

A "product of immigration?" Sure. An immigrant? No. That's simply incorrect. An immigrant is someone who migrates to another country. Someone who was born and lived in the same country their entire lives is in no way, shape, or form, an immigrant.

You could consider checking an encyclopaedia on the matter. I checked the English Wikipedia page on the matter for you. On the literal 2nd paragraph, they talk about second-generation immigrants.

My point is that you seem too stubborn to accept any use of the word apart from that of a dictionary. But I think we can all agree that language contains more than can fit in a dictionary. Therefore, you should acknowledge uses outside those found in a dictionary, like the use described in most encyclopaedias - I must image - on the matter.

Also I find your comment rude, which is just double annoying when you furthermore seem misinformed on the matter.

Second generation immigrants are not immigrants, they're the children of immigrants. So you're simply looking at the wrong terms in the encyclopedia. Trump is not a second, third, fourth, or fifth generation immigrant so that's a moot point anyway.

Words have meaning and if you go around ascribing them willy nilly to whatever and whoever you want, that word then has no meaning. Obscuring the meaning of words is a popular strategy of manipulation and disinformation. The definition of words are important. That's why dictionaries exist.

I'd suggest you scroll up, take a closer look, and ask yourself who was rude first.

An immigrant and being thought of as an immigrant are different things. Law and how it is applied are not the same. If you live only by formal definition of words, you must be incredibly autistic.

If you don't realise the US is a country of immigrants, you don't even understand your own history - and certainly haven't read/understood the words written in The New Colossus. Fuck me, I'm not even from there and I understand your history better than you seem to be showing. I know the US education system is useless (except in teaching how to survive school shootings), but you're not exactly helping beat the stereotype.

Last election he said if he wasn't elected then we would be at war with Iran, gas prices would skyrocket, groceries would be unaffordable, and masked police would be patrolling the streets.

He literally projected exactly what he ended up doing, as is tradition.

Two political parties are supposed to work together for the benefit of everyone, the second a politician tries to divide the country they need to be jailed, or at the very least removed from politics. There is no place for this toxicity in a prosperous country.
