There's never a good headline that includes the word "influencer"

Remindes me of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication Dear friends, please don’t forget to add some electrolytes when you’re about to go in to extremes.

A half marathon is not an extreme event. Many people run this distance without any water at all

Its an extreme event for the average person. Lots of folks are unaware of the danger of overhydration. Combine that with local races where people might be doing their first attempts at longer distance and this starts to become a problem, especially in hotter climates.

Every year there are people that sign up for races with no prior experience thinking "meh, I could run a half marathon". Guess who shows up with a ton of water, no food, and no electrolytes. The same folks that think they could take a bear in a fight. 🙄

You are the one out of touch.

She improved her best over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to about 36½ minutes and clocked 1 hour, 22 minutes, 1 second at the New Balance Half Marathon in March

First off, this was a half marathon.

Second, she has obviously been training hard, and well to reach those times at the amateur level.

It’s terrible that this happened, and it’s shameful that you are on here trying to claim this is the natural result of running.

Did she, by chance, peddle any stereoids or similar on her influencer job?

"Influencer"... How much of this was because of unhealthy expectations for "popular" or "likeable" people? She doesn't look like a healthy runner to me. She looks like a twig of a, "popular" person. Shame on anyone who expects noteworthy performance out of anyone who isn't already a world-class athlete.

Anyone familiar with modern biology knows constant stressors and constant exertion is a recipe for death. Social media does not. Social media never does.

Never let randos determine how hard to push yourself. Ever.

The article mentions she previously won an amateur marathon event. She likely over-extended herself due to being competitive in nature. We assume as there’s no cause of death yet. Which checks out with someone who consistently ran for two hours a day alongside her lab work. She seems like a particularly committed and focused individual. A lot of long distance runners are lean. Would be curious to see if you’d comment on the appearance and motivations of this individual if they were male.

What does her gender have to do with anything?

Are you accusing that person of beliefs that I hold? You are merely proving how pathetic your ability is to identify anything that doesn't agree with you... you are a pathetic worm unable to understand the world in which you wriggle your ignorance about...

lol no. My commentary wasn't on her being lean. It was on her being obviously incapable of finishing a marathon.

The fact you clowns pretend a marathon isn't a great human feat tells me you all are disconnected fucking clowns, not fans of human accomplishment.

There's a FUCKING REASON "marathons" have become a thing throughout THOUSANDS OF YEARS of history... yet you're still too dumb to acknowledge it.

I don't care to diminish her accomplishments, but human performance has been a LONG ESTABLISHED category of what humans are capable of...

The fact you are too stupid to understand even the reality in which you exist is not my problem. You all are genuinely lost to the wind.

She started running in 2022 and gained a large following by sharing online how she balanced lab work and training.

Her rise to fame happened rather quickly for an amateur runner. She improved her best over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to about 36½ minutes and clocked 1 hour, 22 minutes, 1 second at the New Balance Half Marathon in March. On April 5, she won the women's amateur division over 10 kilometers at the Gunsan Saemangeum Marathon.

In a March interview with YouTube, Yoo said she arrives at the lab at 9 a.m. every day and runs for about two hours starting at 8 p.m., adding that she has been actively chasing personal records since the previous summer.

Woo boy, that’s a lot of insults and personal attacks in response to some mild criticism.

My commentary wasn't on her being lean. It was on her being obviously incapable of finishing a marathon.

My implications was that your commentary was based on her being a woman and having a social media presence (influencer) while ignoring that she had won marathons previously and obviously has trained a lot for them. You commented that she didn’t look healthy and like a twig, aka lean. While asserting she competed (and subsequently passed away) at the behest of “randoms online”. As I already pointed out, she’s won said marathons before. Your above quote also contradicts:

I don't care to diminish her accomplishments

Anyway, given your unhinged response it probably isn’t worth continuing to discuss with you.
