Yea I grind (jrpg)
Yea I crunch (Dutch crunch)
Yea I work weekends (work on my hobbies)
As someone not from the US, how exactly does this work? Do they just grab you late on Friday and ask you to work on the weekend? Do they expect you to do it for free?
My office would try to talk you out of working weekends, and if you really had to do something that couldn’t be done in the week they’d try to get you to take time off in the week to make up for it. If you just had to work extra they’d pay you overtime rates, which I think is a legal requirement. They’ll also nag you to make sure you take all your annual leave.
I leave after 12 hours, but I also work 3-4 day weeks.
It's 22:30, I just left the office. Started working at 2am.
I guess, as long as you got paid for each of those hours....
At this point no, but I'll speak to my boss. I'm on contract but I have set hours, so I'll take some time or maybe sleep in a bit more.
My sense of responsibility won't let me miss deadlines, but that's a rare occasion, and I make up for it by doing literally nothing but dialing in to required meetings and deflecting work for however many days as I feel makes it right.
If the task I started on Friday isn't finished by someone else by the time I come back on Monday, then the crews working every shift after my Friday shift aren't doing their job.
Whether that's true depends on one's job.
Some work is solo work.
In my job, the philosophy is: if you can't end it bè the end of your shift, you are understaffed, and if so, then the problem is not yours, so go home and finish it tomorrow.
Unless it's a real emergency, obviously, but those are so rare that I rarely end up a year with more than 10 hours of overtime at the end of december.
