tried rebooting, didn’t work. Tied restoring license, didn’t work. Can’t communicate with them because their stupid AI bullshit ahows no submit button to send my questions.

So…. Is there a class action suit I can jump in on?

EDIT; an hour on the phone with three different departments. And the end result:

I have to buy the game again. Even though they verified that it shows purchased- both in my actual account (he even quoted me the purchase date) , AND through the PS app.

This is how it starts folks. Canceling my PS Plus as we speak.

Well, this time are you going to learn your lesson? The only acceptable way to acquire Sony games (or any of their software, for that matter) is via piracy.

For decades, Sony has been handing out this lesson over and over and over again. They must be very frustrated!

Teach it to everyone you know so Sony doesn't have to try so hard anymore.

A lesson I needed to learn back in 2021 when I bought it? Cool! Fuck me for not predicting the future!

Seriously… Do you blame all victims of things. Or are you just particular to only this type of dumb shit?

The entire world should have learned this lesson about Sony back on October 31, 2005 when Sysinternals co-founder Mark Russinovich published a blog post about a rootkit Sony was secretly installing on people's PCs:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal

They have been villains for a long fucking time now.

They sold the PlayStation 3, marketing its ability to install 3rd party operating systems. Then they decided, "haha, suckers!" And pulled the plug on that feature... Just like they do with games! It's almost as if they're known for this shit!

In April 2011, The PlayStation Network was breached. Everyone's personal information, credit card details, etc were leaked. They told no one for a fucking week. They knew it was bad. They knew people were going to be victimized as a result. They obviously didn't give AF! Because "doing the right thing" has never been in Sony's playbook.

More recent: Months after Helldivers 2 became an unexpected success on PC, Sony announced a retroactive requirement that all Steam players link a PlayStation Network account to continue playing. In other words, it's more of their, "I have altered the deal, pray I do not alter it further" bullshit.

So fucking yes! You should have known!

Yeah, right. I totally deserve it for not reading every random backwoods tech blog by someone I have no reason to know who is- that is known or unknown to man for the slight chance that just maybe something just might be remotely relevant to a purchase I made, might make, wil make, or won’t bother to make sometime in the near future, distant future, or quite possibly….. never.

Absolutely, bud. I can see how that is entirely on me.

You 100% don't deserve it, but that's sorta the thing, you shouldn't have to keep up with tech blogs to know about this. Sony installing rootkits on people's machines without permission is flagrantly illegal, and people should have gone to fucking prison. It should have either been the noose around Sony's neck or the catalyst for major change. It was neither, really, although as far as I'm aware, they didn't do anything that stupid/illegal again.

Yup. I recall that. Got my PC bunged up by it and I ended up getting a budget 160GB hard drive and reinstalling a fresh copy of WinXP on it.

Learned the hard lesson about ripping CD's and ended up pivoting to jumping the analog gap and doing line-in recordings of my music and treating much of it like I do vinyl LPs. Have a PowerMac G4 (one with zero latency) with an Avid audiophile card that I use so the quality of the recordings are fine.

Only Sony products I have now are a couple of digital cameras - which are actually decent.

All you had to do was disable auto play and you could rip the CDs at full quality. Doing digital -> analog -> digital is kinda like resaving a jpeg as another jpeg; you will lose quality even if your equipment is great because the digital <-> analog conversion is lossy, due to one being discrete in both time and amplitude while the other is continuous in time and amplitude. Plus there's line noise.

Oh, given my hearing loss - too many childhood ear infections - I've given up on anything other than mp3's. If the scratchy vinyl I have is fine, (I still have the copy of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine given to me the year it came out.. when I was 5. Sounds like a cat danced on it.. claws out.. but I still listen to it) a bit of line noise hardly makes a difference.

Someone being on par with a company's BS doesn't mean everyone is though, and Sony covers their tracks usually.

Apparently he said elsewhere Sony told him Bethesda pulled the license, so Sony may not even have any play in this other than being the storefront. If so this would be like being mad at Walmart because the Windows license they sold you stopped working and Walmart is like yeah... We see you bought it here, but you need to talk to Microsoft about why they pulled it after years of use.
