About the same I would say. I like the smaller site, it being a bit more popular would hurt though.

I just do not like that its mostly images/links being shared and not discussions happening. I guess it is only natural since its a reddit clone, I guess I wish it would be more forum like.

Also welcome back deathbybigsad :) I thought I recognized that profile.

    Was in my hometown the other day and walked by the husk of what used to be the video rental store. I felt a bit sad but then remembered that libraries exist which are way cooler!! :) and I also have a library card and then I was happy.

    Yea I also just found about those recently. I never really gave KDE a chance because I think the default theme does not look good, but now I kinda think its by design and is only intended as baseline for it be customized similar on how HTML looks without CSS.

    Really hope we will be able to review places directly in the app one day. Im not a big fan of MapCompletes UX. This is a really cool feature though and I already made some reviews.

    Can't tell if this is edited or not :( Cause I did snap this in the german version of ACWW which translates to "Rich people think they could be mean to normal people…”

    While peertube has no content you can follow the channels from here and interact with it, that is what I am doing and it does not feel as empty as doing it over there. (Also you do not have to create a new account!) Does not solve the content problem but I think it good to use it for those creators that are !thelinuxexperiment_channel@tilvids.com It actually works fairly well with lemmy (alot better than mastodon as the design and concept is not compatible), just that posts rarely get the same burst of interaction that things on lemmy get which is why it never shows up on your feed. Lemmy gets multicomms in 1.0 though so you can create one for peertube.

    Only recently got the new macOS and its hideous. On iOS it is fine i think, especially as apps are more streamlined there anyways. The effect is pretty but that is the problem on macOS, its mostly used for low priority navigation buttons like the back button and completely fucks with the hierarchy. At least that is my explanation for why things look so weird there.

    Switched to Debian/Android and never looked back. Best thing about it is that I can finally use standards again and dont have to go around those artificial road blocks that Apple has put up.

    I guess we will see big studios push gaming as a service again? I honestly wouldn't care too much since I haven't been interested in Triple A games for a while now. (except for some exceptions ofc) As long as they keep my indie games unaffected!!

    Scary implications aside, video game decomps are so cool! I honestly feel like we have enough games to last humanity. And having them all in their best form possible is kinda cool, soon we can run all time classics and built our dream console out of an raspi 5, with mods keeping it fresh.

    Im tired of not knowing what kind of specs I have on a different machine im using so I want to generate complete spec reports I can then look up.

    I can do it manually its not that much work, but am wondering if anybody knows a way there is some cool piece of software that maybe also outputs it in a standardized way, if that's even a thing. So Ill hopefully only have to do it once.

    We are so back! This is my kind of Nintendo Direct. Hombrew just does what Nintendont.

    Decompiled Mario Kart Wii native on Linux (meaning 4K 120Hz) and all that cool stuff coming with it.

    And RetroRewind a Mario Kart Wii Custom Track Distribution including all previous Courses and some of the later ones included as well as a reverse engineered server (which seems to be down right now for maintenance). Devs are also very active.

    They did honestly perfected the physics and some of the item weights in Mario Kart 8, but I suppose I can live without it, especially the minute long invincibility frames. Its still in Beta but am looking forward trying this out later today.

    EDIT: I think I misunderstood :( Its too separate things, but two really cool things! And they do seem to be working on getting RetroRewind run in Wiicompiled! As I said I have to take look myself first.

    User Notes (piefed.social)

    Thank you for the app and all the hard work! It is actually almost perfect, so feature rich, customisable and good looking.

    Only thing missing for me is the function to add a note to users existing on both Lemmy and PieFed.

    There are user tags, but I think they are local only. (?)

    I think if its an option it would be best to merge those features.

    I have a Pixel 3A with LineageOS.

    You can squeeze the Pixel 3 to activate a shortcut which google called Active Edge. Lineage provides an reverse engineered implementation of that where you can set the action to one of the one shown in the image. I would like to set it to open a specific app (FossWallet) however that is not an option.

    But as I do not have any Assistant App yet, I have some hopes now that there is some kind of app that acts as an "Assistant" which you can configure to your liking. eg. launching an App or some Automation. Does anybody know of an app like that? Preferable available on Fdroid.

    Hey all I have finally updated my React Native App which also comes with an update of React to 19.2.0.
    That version of React adds/activates a new ESLint rule named react-hooks/set-state-in-effect. Which does make sense to enforce I guess and I did found a couple of places where I was able save one or two unnecessary re-renders but here I really am not sure what the best fix is. Here is a simplified but reproducible example:

    export default function SyncIndicator({ loading }) {
        const [visible, setVisible] = useState(false);
        const opacity = useAnimatedValue(0);

        useEffect(() => {
            if (loading) {
                setVisible(true); // react-hooks/set-state-in-effect violation
                const animation = Animated.timing(opacity, { toValue: 1, duration: 200 });
                animation.start();
            } else {
                const animation = Animated.timing(opacity, { toValue: 0, duration: 200 });
                animation.start(() => {
                    setVisible(false); // this is fine as its async
                });
            }
        }, [loading, opacity]);

        if (visible) {
            return (
                <Animated.View style={{ opacity }}>
                    <ActivityIndicator color={'#194159'} />
                </Animated.View>
            );
        } else {
            return null;
        }
    }

    Theoretically this would just render it three times I believe which is not perfect, but wouldn't at-least end up being an infinite loop.

    Honestly from UX standpoint it would be even better to get rid of visible and enable pointerEvents only if loading is true to make it pass down events if half opaque. It would even make the code cleaner, but I also do want to know now how people on here would fix it.

    Did anybody else found themselves with ESLint screaming at you after updating React? Is there a clean fix to this?
