Could we like...stop pretending that this wasn't the plan all along?

The AS cartel isn't investing what are already trillions of dollars in that technology because they want humanity to prosper, or because they hope commoners will pay a miserly monthly subscription. They are doing it because they know that middle managers will use it to get rid of you. If that's not possible or feasible, then at least squeeze you out. That requires invasive monitoring. I mean, obviously, right ?

This is just the typical capitalist/colonialist/expansionist playbook, and Altman is the kind of dude that would see absolutely no problem in actually, physically taking away the stuff from you. By letting your devices stand idle, you are being selfish and wasteful. He, on the other hand, wants us all to have access to his super awesome product.

No need to argue. Caffeine is only bad for your health if you take insane amounts of it, and coffee itself has actual benefits, something you could literally never state about energy drinks. As for smoking vs. vaping, dunno.

Everyday browsing (except watching videos online which is indeed very slow) is almost seamless on my 16-year-old Thinkpad running NetBSD, even with its meager 4GB RAM. NetBSD in general is pretty chill on system resources.

FreeBSD and DragonFly are not quite there, at least in my experience.

I haven't used OpenBSD for browsing or watching videos in AGES (I only use it for non-graphical applications), so I wouldn't know.

You said it: That's enough for you to reject the project, which is an understandable and respectable point of view. However: you talked about endorsement by the Devuan team, which is a bit of a stretch tbh, let alone stating that the project is run by fascists, which, again, IMHO doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

A short research was enough to find out way too much about that guy. He even has his own non-woke fork (a phrase I find pretty hilarious) of Devuan, but Devuan's team 'embracing' him or his ideas is nowhere to be seen, so...sauce ?

    Artificial Stupidity.

9front is not UNIX (but its predecessor was also created at Bell Labs). It is 'many of the ideas surrounding UNIX, on steroids'. The user experience is waaaaaay more integrated because the whole system is developed by the same small team.

On the flip side: forget about browsers and many 'modern' programming languages.

Yea, apparently AS is now being heavily used in its development. I need to look up the reference, but I read a while ago that AS-assisted 'coding' was used for making SMP work in Hurd.

I've spent quite some time pondering my options now that OpenBSD, my former OS of choice, has been slowly but surely giving in to the hype, and I can tell you that currently the most sensible option seems to be (I'm not joking) 9Front.

Hi folks. I am happy I found fuck_ai on Lemmy. I would like to ask if those of you who are gifted in graphic design (I most definitely am not) would like to make a badge for websites with anti-AI messages and release it here under a permissive license so we can proudly display it on blogs/websites/e-mails/younameit.

    Some ideas for the text:

'Not powered by AI' 'There is no AI [just greedy millionaires]' 'Written by and for humans'

...but please share more ideas. AND be proud to be human, for God's sake. With everything that entails. Have a nice day with lots of human-to-human contact!
