It's very good at this. We had a legacy app that hadn't been touched in about ~4 years; filled with poor design decisions and a stale npm dependency tree that would give any JavaScript developer an aneurysm. We were able to able to update it, consolidate microservices, remove dead code/deps, and move it to new infrastructure that is 1/10th the cost—in a work week. This was something we built ourselves but simply didn't have the resources to maintain it. In fact we were planning on sunsetting it due both the technical and financial cost. This is no longer the case.

The actual quality of the code it produced is excellent. It is just as good as the code we had written for this particular application. This was not the case at the beginning of the year, in fact we would not have even attempted it then.

Success could vary by tech stack, in this case it was Go/Typescript.

Part of the appeal for me is that they aren't so tart. I find the Granny Smith too sour for my tastes most of the time. They are remarkably crisp however, unlike Red Delicious which are typically enjoyed by felons and sociopaths (and my wife).

It's easy to lose track of time with these tools, he told Business Insider. Soon enough, the girls' practice has ended, and the parents flood into the changing room. He joins them — with his laptop ajar, so that the AI agent can keep running.

"I have to put it up on a shelf," he said. "I'm untying my girls' skates while looking back like: Is it done?"

I just feel bad for these poor kids. You can't leave your goddamn Claude at home while you take your kids to the rink?
