I mean, good legislation is good legislation regardless of who signs it, but like you said I don't think he's actually going to do that

May as well pretend to offer a carrot

This will not build political capital, this will spend our political capital for absolutely nothing. Voters do not want us to be bipartisan and compromise right now, they want us to inflict some of the pain that's been inflicted on them into the people who have inflicted it

until it's too late for another Jan6 attempt, there's two full years to use the stick.

Hmm, OK, you might have a point in this very specific scenario. I still maintain that it will be a PR disaster with our voters, and I'm not sure the GOP has another Jan6 in them with how beaten down they seemed this week, but yeah ensuring a peaceful transfer of power is important and might require a different approach than governing will.

Literally what election result is this based on? As far as I can tell, "we tried to be nice but failed to get anything done" has lost every single election since like Carter. Like, Trump won general elections because he was an asshole to his opponents and people are that up because it made him seem genuine and like he'd be an effective fighter on behalf of the people who supported him. Promising to be nice to people you are simultaneously arguing (correctly) are corrupt fascists doesn't make you seem reasonable, it make you seem like you're full of shit and just don't believe anything.

Oh absolutely not, especially if we take any kind of historical view of how we got here it's a ton of patriarchal rape culture bullshit that demanding we treat abusive monsters with politeness that led to this "bipartisanship over every other concern" idiocy we see all over the Democratic party

Still, Annie Andrews is shaping up to be a completely perfect example of this crap and it's looking like we should start searching for somebody to primary her now. Call it internalized misogyny or a lack of class consciousness or whatever, but she's perpetuating the crap that's killing this country.

Not just awful men (arc), unfortunately

KELLY: I saw Nikki Haley, the Republican former governor of your state. She said last night South Carolina didn't vote for you. They voted against Trump Republicans. What do you think? Do you think both can be true?

ANDREWS: I think we worked really hard to build a campaign that was for everyone. And we brought together people from across the political spectrum. I was so proud to earn the endorsement of former Republican South Carolina Governor David Beasley, also proud to have the support of Ralph Norman's children, including his son, Warren Norman. And we built a campaign that was really laser-focused on the problems South Carolinians face, regardless of if you're a Republican, a Democrat or an independent.

And that's what the story from last night was - that people are tired of the divisiveness. They're more concerned about what's happening in South Carolina than they are about the party politics in Washington, D.C. And they saw in me someone who will be a fighter for South Carolina, someone who's serious about solving these problems and, again, willing to work across the aisle. The only two senators I've talked to since I won my race last night are Senators Darline Graham and Senator Tim Scott. And Tim Scott and I are planning to get together next week because we're going to work together to solve...

    KELLY: Yeah.

If we go down that path we'll get another Trump within 20 years and we may not come back from the next one. Trump is just a symptom, the real disease afflicting this country is the party of Goldwater, Nixon, Reagan, Bush, and countless other traitors. Until that organization is broken every victory we see is just the country getting lucky while playing Russian roulette.

In January 2015, Trannyshack was renamed "Mother" and started taking place at Oasis, a San Francisco gay club owned by Heklina. The reason for the name change was out of respect for the transgender community, who were critical of the use of the word "tranny" as being offensive.

I think there's a generational difference on what words are or are not slurs. Like, at one point I ended up in a conversation with a friend's very chill but 70+ year old parents and they couldn't believe I used the word "queer" to describe somebody because that was a slur to them, but they also thought calling that person "fruity" was totally OK, which definitely made me feel uncomfortable.

Also, Senate filibuster hasn't gone anywhere yet. Everything gets better the fewer Republicans we have in Washington DC and the American people seem about as eager to get rid of them as I have ever seen them, so we should seize that momentum if we can.

100% this, and I'll add that in addition to the visible and elected people, it's their financiers that need to be targeted in a serious way. Like, we didn't break organized crime in this country by just cracking down on the enforcers and hitmen, we dropped the hammer on their accountants and accounts and then all the lower level guys who weren't getting bail or lawyers or anything flipped. This is the exact same kinda problem.

If we'd have prosecuted George W Bush's people for their self-dealing, the torture, the assassinations, and extraordinary renditions to CIA blacksites maybe Trump wouldn't have even bothered running for office in the first place

Also, Nixon should have hung for undermining Vietnam peace talks in 1968

Affordability can't happen without accountability. Besides being a massive affront to human rights, all the money we're throwing at ICE garbage is money not going into healthcare childcare etc. social infrastructure that makes affordability happen.

And besides all of that, the Republican party is no less of an existential threat today than they were yesterday. So long as they have their freedom and access to their financial networks they are going to continue to sabotage everything in this country. They must be tried and imprisoned or we will fall back into fascist bullshit again in a few years and it will be even worse than it is now.

I'm sorry. For what it's worth, it still hasn't passed yet there's still enough votes to count that the outcome could change.

Also, I'm not sure if it's much consolation, but WA wasn't alone on this, a bunch of states passed measures like this last night. Between Republicans desperately looking for some kind of issue to run on and settling on trans folks existence and so many people in the Democratic party just trying to avoid the conversation entirely it was a terrible environment for this bigoted crap unfortunately.

Figuring out what you for sure want to do with the entire rest of your life is nearly impossible and probably just going to stress you out. Try to figure out where you think you might enjoy being a year from now (or even a few months or weeks from now), and then figure out what you can do to get there. If it turns out you don't like it once you do get there, start thinking about where else you might like to be and try to get there.

Life is very long and there's no final answers or figuring things out permanently, there will always be bad days and good days, new problems and new solutions. Don't let the tiny facet of time you're currently perceiving overwhelm everything else.
