Investigations can absolutely happen without a supermajority. Tariffs are a maybe. the courts might be more likely to shut them down if they have the legislative branch breathing down their necks. Things that turn up from the investigations can be used to file new lawsuits. Dems could extract concessions during budgeting.

That said, I don't have a lot of confidence Dems will do much of anything, despite the wave. I hope I'm wrong.

Question: is there some evidence or new fact that would make you change your mind on this? If so, what? If not, what does that say about your belief?

I do think his ear really was hit by the bullet, but if a major news org were to release some evidence that there actually was a conspiracy and it was all fake, I'd change my mind no question.

  • Did you read the article? It also cites studies similar to the ones you linked. For instance:

One consistent result stands out: People who consume more ultraprocessed foods are at higher risk for multiple chronic diseases and early death.

I guess it makes sense, since the UPF framework literally and explicitly disregards substance in favor of a notion of pure sourcing. As with the genetic fallacy, it can be a useful heuristic but is ultimately unsound.

  • Given the same number of decimals, Fahrenheit is higher resolution. It can communicate ambient temperatures slightly more efficiently than Celsius, because it is designed to do that and Celsius is not. I can definitely tell the difference between, say, a climate control setting of 70F and 71F. If I wanted that level of control with Celsius, I'd have to communicate/have displayed 3 digits and a decimal point. That is less efficient. Is that a big deal? No. Does it mean Celsius is bad? Also no. I think we here in the US should switch to metric for a number of reasons, but this would be a slight downside to switching. Sorry if that hurts your feelings of superiority but it's the truth.
