'A father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter...' A controversial remark made by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler about his daughter, actress Liv Tyler, is once again making rounds on social media. The statement, published in Gavin Edwards' 2006 book Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton's Little John?, has resurfaced as the 78-year-old singer faces an unresolved California civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a teenager in the 1970s.

Tyler denies wrongdoing in the case brought by Julia Misley, who says she was 16 when their relationship began in 1973. A judge narrowed her lawsuit in April 2026 but allowed allegations involving California to proceed.

Despite the pending lawsuit, Tyler has returned to performing, joining Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 29 October 2026. The concert marked the band's first full live performance since 2023, following a vocal injury that forced the group to retire from touring. His daughter Liv, 49, and actress Alicia Silverstone introduced the band before the performance.

Tyler's return to the stage comes as he continues to fight allegations of sexual abuse in court. At the Hollywood Bowl, the singer performed Aerosmith classics including 'Dream On', 'Sweet Emotion' and 'Walk This Way', with Dave Grohl joining the band on drums. The performance was part of a two-night concert event held on 29 October and 1 November 2026, even as Tyler's civil lawsuit remains unresolved.

“Oh, absolutely,” Tyler responded with a laugh, according to Edwards, “How can a father not be attracted to his daughter, especially when she’s a cross between the girl he married and himself? Unless he’s an ugly man, a father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter on a certain level… However, the real man knows that’s just a place to never go. There’s ways to love it without making love to it; I wrote ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ about fathers who don’t know the difference.”

Why are all these fuckers sound like closet homosexuals if you let them speak long enough? I feel like that’s the key to resolve a lot of abuse. And just like trump he comes from a background that would not take being gay or bi very well, so they stay in the closet and eventually their sexual wiring starts sparking, and they end up being sexually attracted to their daughter.

Steven Tyler is a rapist because he chooses to be a rapist, and he is a pedophile because he refuses to get treatment for a mental illness that urges him to abuse children. It has NOTHING to do with his gender or sexual identity, as "rapist and pedophile" is not a gender or sexual identity. You can call these people out for their actual crimes without gay bashing. Someone being afraid, anxious, unsure of how to express their identity to others, or just not wanting to, does not turn them into a sexual predator. It's entirely unrelated, and it's common right wing rhetoric to correlate LGBTQ identity with sexual abuse propensity.

I already have you tagged as a mysogynist, so the benefit of the doubt that you're accidentally being an ignorant bigot is flimsy at best

That didn’t happen. And if it did, it wasn’t that bad. And if it was, that’s not a big deal. And if it is, that’s not my fault. And if it was, I didn’t mean it. And if I did, you deserved it.

Yes, you tipped your hand once your tagging as misogynistic is the core authority for your judgements of me till the end of time, because in one post I said “pretty woman”.

Nothing I say or do will change your mind, but where I’m from (a misogynistic, ableist, zionist, absolutist and rapist town in the middle of nowhere) it is still possible to talk about how closeted sexual orientation actually can be damaging to society, without automatically condemning the sexual orientation.

You’re clearly sensitive to this, so no point in arguing. Take care.

Would you like me to provide screenshots of you being a mysogynist? That can be arranged. You did not just call someone pretty. You called them a pretty girl, a chick, commented on their makeup use, and then used all of that to claim that they were too dumb to understand the topic. The topic itself? The woman, a diabetic, was doing an incredible service to the world by pointing out and making it known that Dexcom is making diabetic care harder for their clients intentionally. You then also made a very off-putting comment about well groomed boys before running off.

I will reiterate that gender and sexual orientation is not correlated to someone being a sexual abuser. Boiling it down to "they're gay and repressed so they commit crimes" is disgusting and you know it. This is not up for debate, it is not a fact. It is right wing propaganda to isolate and vilify minority groups.

Perhaps instead of using that tired and honestly offensive "minorities around me are targeted so I'll use my judgement for them" dialogue, you should shut the fuck up and actually listen to what they say. I showed your comment to several people in my very LGBTQ heavy social group today, and the consensus was that you were being a vile pig. You won't reflect on that even for a moment, though.

They don’t like women is the point. They like grown men’s asses and kids. The women part is what they do to “blend in”

This is not talking about how closeted sexual orientation can be damaging, this is literally equating homosexuals with pedophiles.

This is why I continue to speak out about these issues. Not everyone knows some of the vile pedophilic shit that we have allowed to fester openly.

Thank you for saying something, thank you for rejecting these types of men, thank you.

The last time I posted about this, there were quite a few comments crying that this was so long ago and he already was scolded publicly or whatever. Pathetic the way some people will move to defend pedophiles.

Anthony Kiedis from RHCP is another example I'm vocal about whenever that band comes up. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to know that he openly admits to "dating" children on a fairly regular basis with no remorse, and the rest of the band seems to be into it as they continue to perform together.

People tend to not like having their parasocial relationships questioned, but it's important to remind ourselves and others that we don't know these people and to not worship them just because they're "rockstars."

for anyone who wants the full context, as I did:

Does Steven Tyler ever find himself inappropriately attracted to his daughter Liv?

That’s one of those questions you ask last in an interview, in case the guy gets offended and hangs up the phone. But when I asked Tyler, the Aerosmith singer replied, “Oh, absolutely,” adding his trademark cackle. “How can a father not be attracted to his daughter, especially when she’s a cross between the girl he married and himself? Unless he’s an ugly man, a father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter on a certain level.” So you’re saying incest is based in vanity? “Positively, there’s a certain level of narcissism in incest. All a man has to do is be totally honest with himself and he can see it. However, the real man knows that’s just a place to never go. Instead he celebrates it by telling his daughter how beautiful she is and what a precious child of God she is. There’s ways to love it without making love to it–I wrote ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ about fathers who don’t know the difference.”

(Excerpted from the 2006 book Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton’s Little John?: Music’s Most Enduring Mysteries, Myths, and Rumors Revealed, published by Three Rivers Press, written by Gavin Edwards.)

    https://rulefortytwo.com/secret-rock-knowledge/chapter-7/steven-tyler-inappropriately-attracted-to-liv/

the context doesn't save it. I think I see what he was going for, but even as somebody without kids, I just don't see how you wouldn't entirely separate your child's appearance from your sexual attraction to her mother.

oh and ofc now I see the context OP added that was buried way down in the comments, after I spent time looking for it amongst a lot of dead ends

I'm currently feeling a little weird about Rise Against because the lead singer liked Pink's anti Macklemore Instagram post. I know the other members have made some pro-Palestine comments, but it's just a little concerning. Then there's Linkin Park feeling very money hungry since Chester died, I just don't feel the passion in their music. Neither of those are as bad ad domestic abuse (depending on the deeper meaning behind liking that post) but it's still hard to listen to.

My father one day, told me apropos of fucking nothing, he was worried when we (me and twin) got to a certain age, he might find us attractive since after all we looked just like our mother. However, luckily he said, that never happened probably because he remembers changing diapers and feeding us and stuff.

At the risk of getting banned myself, I don't agree with that interpretation of their comment (and even if I did, "creepy" isn't how I'd describe bigotry)

They were trying to draw a connection between Tyler thinking he's hot and the obviously-closeted conservatives who say the gayest things imaginable while supporting anti-LGBT legislation.

I don't like that comparison because Tyler is just an arrogant rockstar who thinks he's the best. And I don't like the comment because there's no real reason to bring that up.

But I really don't believe they were trying to equate pedophiles and homosexuals.

There is 0 indication that Steven Tyler is gay. Positing that closeted homosexuals become obsessed with women to hide their obsession with other men and children is directly conflating homosexuals and pedophiles.

they stay in the closet and eventually their sexual wiring starts sparking, and they end up being sexually attracted to their daughter.

    This is homophobic.

I understand that interpretation but I still think they were referring specifically to the idea that he finds his daughter attractive because she looks like him, a man. That's the "gay" thing he said.

I agree that the quoted sentence is pretty homophobic but I still wouldn't call any of this creepy
