I like the idea of that but realistically, theyre one of the richest countries and the largest economic block for the short and medium and probably long term.

They already are North Korea of the west. They have a cult deified leader, he says ridiculous things, everyone (especially the american media) take it seriously, his advisors say that what he does is "glorious, historic, unprecedented", they wear hats that say things like "Trump Was Right About Everything", many Americans have pictures of Trump hanging in their own homes. Some even have tattoos of him.

When he dies, you'll see people publically bawling. So many monuments and statues will go up. Hell be revered warmly and nostalgically in any history books or media.

Based on the already established history that the Biden administration kept Trump's first term section 301 tariffs on China

In relationship to Canada, Biden kept Trump's tariffs on soft wood lumber imports and actively doubled them.

Biden also aggressively expanded duties on Chinese electric vehicles by 100%, 50% on solar cells, and 25% on lithium-ion batteries, steel, and aluminum.

Biden also reinstated 25% tariffs on Mexican steel

The Americans support tariffs on their trading partners and their perceived enemies, which is most countries.

Ive got a P1S and I love it. I haven't updated the firmware because of their aggressive and anti consumer practices. I do know there are open source self hosted programs for it like Bambuddy but I haven't tried it. Its on my list though.

I haven't had a print failure since the day I got it several years ago. Its fast and precise. There are probably as good or better printers now that are more open source friendly. On Lemmy, you'll find everyone saying not to buy one because of how shitty the company is. For a Normie, I'd say it works fantastic. For a tinkerer, its not the best choice.

    I'd consider myself a Normie+

A big purchase needs a big screen!

When you can plug your phone into your workstations USB c dock and you have DeX or another equivalent, the lines start to get blurry.

    Sup penguin people.

I’ve been running various flavours and variations of Ubuntu for a while. I find I have to nuke and reset my laptop every 6ish months because things eventually stop working or I get weird bugs.

Recently I’ve been having this on and off problem where the computer just shows a black screen after turning it on. The only way to fix this is to tap keys repeatedly until a console shows up and it seems to kick the computer into gear and log in. Other times I have to restart 2-3 times before it logs me in.

I’ve had a lot of small issues like that (like having to jiggle the volume knob in the sound mixer to get sound working) and I’m wondering if switching to an immutable distro (like bazzite) would solve this apparent config creep.

I have a Steamdeck and it’s been solid and stable ever since I got it. I know it’s running an immutable distro and after researching a little bit it sounds like they can be more stable.

I’m no power user but I play some steam games and run a local 7b LLM and like to have a virtual machine or two for Windows XP emulation for some retro gaming.

Anyone have any opinions? What are your thoughts on immutable distros (like Bazzite)? Pros? Cons? Success/doom stories?

Edit: I’m back baby. 4 months later and still kicking it with Bazzite. Go immutable if you’re a former windows person and needs a computer to just work the way you’d expect without any configuration. I’m running all my steam games and plugging into my usb c dock for mouse keyboard webcam and 2 1080p monitor. I could never get that working on other distros. The future is immutable 🙌

2 year update edit: still on the same install! I managed to fuck up the system fonts without being able to fix them so I made a new user and that fixed everything. Immutable JUST WORKS.

There's no list of all content you can watch, just categories that change each day.

It doesn't remember what you've watched or remember where you were if you closed a video halfway through.

The only way to keep track of videos or series you want to watch is by adding them to your favourites but unless it's a series, you can't remove single videos from your favourites after adding them (in the android app, Roku, and their website).

Thumbnails for most videos don't even load in the Roku app and Android app.

I've never seen a UI so unusable before. Free pirate streaming sites online have more logical UI.

    At $9.99 CAD/month, what gives?

Ya that's brown rice falling out. These bags were supposedly designed for sport bikes with upright facing exhausts and apparently are specially lined to be heat resistant and able to sit in front of the exhaust.

Came home from a grocery run to find that my frozen salmon fillets were fully thawed, my sweet potatoes transformed into baked potatoes, my cinnamon sticks became charcoal, and my rice bag melted 🙃

I've done groceries maybe a dozen times with these bags without issue but I guess the bag got a little too close to the exhaust. I spent all day today scraping dried molten plastic off my exhaust pipes and trying to pull rice out of my exhaust baffles (only got 2 grains out 😣).

Hi all I need a sanity check.

Diagnosed ADD as a kid, struggled to pay attention and care in school, was on concerta for a decade. Parents would up my dose if my grades went down and expected me to grow out of ADD once I turned 18.

That didn't happen and my life fell apart and I vowed to never take medication again because I saw it as a conspiracy to sell pills and get people messed up in the head.

After 15 years of emotional dysregulation and crippling anxiety I spoke to a dr and tried an extended release amphetamine yesterday.

My whole world changed. No emotional noise, no background feeling of "I'm a bad person and I don't know why", social anxiety is gone (was able to respond to all my messages and even make a phone call AND talk to a cashier!!!). Was able to do tasks I left behind because the anxiety to start was too bad.

I feel like I can do anything I set my mind to now. My self confidence is up. I don't dread things. I woke up calm. My mind used to be a firehose of thoughts and emotions all at max level. Now it's calm and orderly and logical.

This seems too good to be true. I didn't even know existence could be like this. Is this normal? Is it the honeymoon phase? Is it just because I'm taking an amphetamine? I'm beside myself and life feels like I've got all the cheat codes now. It seems too good to be true.

I had to share this because no one else in my life will listen.

If you play racing games in first person, you’ll know that you have a head-on view of what’s directly in front of you. Maybe you can look left and right outside your windows with the right thumbstick. Maybe not.

This works and is how almost everyone plays racing games. If you swerve around a corner and your car is sideways, it’s hard to know if you’re making that corner or if you’re about to spin out and crash into a wall.

In comes VR. You’re directly inside the car. When you lean forward, you actually lean forward. You can glance up to check your mirrors, and most importantly - you can turn your head to look out the left and right window!!!

All of a sudden my drifts through tight corners are perfectly in control. I look out the right window as I swerve sideways through a left turn to see if my car is still driving in the middle of the road.

I went from 4-5 crashes on my rally course to 1 just by using vr. The stereoscopic 3D of a lens per eye lets me judge speed better. Looking out of the windows ensures I don’t crash.

New life has been breathed into my racing setup. I play with an Xbox one controller and it’s still great.

If you’ve got a vr headset or can find a used one for cheap and can plug it into your computer, it’s a must. I can’t race in 2D anymore. I highly recommend.

Graduated during the pandemic, got a good job right after graduation working in IT (I don’t have a degree in IT but I’m good with computers and learn quickly). I’ve been working from home since 2019.

My work just announced that work from home will be forbidden (no exceptions) starting January. My choice is to move to a high cost of living city to keep my job (which my current salary truly cannot afford) or find a new job. I live rurally so finding a new job is tough, especially in my field.

Not confident about my future. I (think) I have a wide breadth of technical digital skills (I can do parametric 3D modelling, video edit+colour grading, software and app mockups using Figma and XD, graphic design using vector graphics, anything M365 -tenant administration and deployment, digital training, PowerBI data cleaning and dashboards, powerautomate, blah blah blah).

I don’t even know what other jobs I can do. I’ve only ever worked at this place and I feel that on paper, I’m not very hireable. Surely though someone with my assortment of skills can find a line of work where I’d thrive and learn more.

I just feel stuck in a rut and have no idea what to do.

I’m eating dinner and all of a sudden it really hits me that the riding season is genuinely over for me in the next few weeks.

It’s 0-2 C every morning now and the afternoon it gets up to 9-10. I just got this bike in June. The tires are probably not very good below 6.

How do y’all cope with having to put the bike up for winter? Do you pick up a winter hobby?
