It also barely works. The most obvious other witch would be Gilda and she was a good witch. I know that there were 4 witches and two were evil but the people that get the joke are likely going to think of Gilda first so it's kinda a stretch.

Remember when they first made the change and all over social media you had the fake videos of people showing you how to drill into your phone because -- "The jack is still there guys! promise"

Patrick Stewart was generally very kind and well liked in his field. He has also given very honest interviews where he admits that his career was most important thing in his life. Not with arrogance or pride but a sad self-understanding. There are elements of Picard in him, even if the whole of the man is not Picard.

It all adds to the whataboutism noise. Every so often someone dies or says something that will make everyone pause and think or mourn together. The trolls can't have that so they will find the one moment or talking point that will pull the angry base back into the fold or at least stop the thinking.

It kinda sucks. Like, there are some truly awful people out there and then there are some genuine and good people who have at one point or another had a bad take.

Trolls like to make you think it's all the same.

One of the first toys I remember having was a small model of the Enterprise D with little shuttles that you could land in the shuttle bay. One of my earliest memories is cuddling with my dad and watching TNG. While I'm not proud of it, I once threw a fit at the planetarium because we were going to miss TNG if we stayed. I saw every TNG movie in theaters with my dad.

This feels like a loss of a family member.

It's Saudi Arabia. They're basically in the dark ages with the oil money to buy modern infrastructure. It's an absolute monarchy, You get the death penalty for being any flavor of queer, It's a surveillance state. They literally sent a kill squad into a foreign nation to (successfully) brutally murder a journalist. We don't hear it much because of all the other constant noise in the digital world but they're not good people. Everyone turns a blind eye because they have that sweet sweet oil and since like the 70s the US has been on it's knees for them.

Don't get me wrong here. It's a very nice looking place but it's built on some of the most terrible human rights abuses you can name.

They have almost open slavery. It's not a good place. The fact that they were allowed to buy EA at all is a problem.

It will happen. I was browsing this while logged out and can't respond to the person I would like to because they're invisible to me. The thing about bailouts is that they will likely go to the big dogs and not the actual AI companies. Microsoft, Meta, Google, NVIDIA, Amazon... They'll get bailed out. OpenAI and Anthropic will get consumed/sold off. We'll likely see a bidding war for their assets because while they are over valued, they are not without value, and since most of us believe all of this is a push is for cloud computing I would bet. The bubble pop will be consolidation and a push for more cloud-based saas infrastructure.

My opinion has been that all this AI bubble noise has basically just been the R&D phase of a larger rollout. I would be concerned with which company ends up with those assets because that will be a big indicator of future plans in the sector.

    I can't.

I believe what I said, but I'm not following the Chinese market in any serious way. One of my comment edits was to disclose that but I choose the more basic statement. I'm fully willing to be wrong when presented with data. I felt that removing my own hedge allowed comments like yours to more directly challenge the statement.

I'm in the middle of studying for a mid term. I don't want to use the energy to dig into it. I got my stance mostly from articles I've read in passing on how they have regulated their AI market to protect workers and manage circular investing. It could easily have been propaganda.

My first thought as well. Though I get why he choked. There's something icky about sleeping with a person that you know is essentially a child socially. Even if they're way smarter and more technically knowledgeable than you in every way.

China has been taking steps to keep it's AI industry in check. They'll be fine. Their bubble pop is essentially a market adjustment. We all just get bent out of shape because of how big these numbers have gotten over the last few decades. The important thing is that the Chinese government took steps to protect it's other sectors which is why we likely saw their bubble pop before ours.
