"Thankfully, Starfield is actually amazingly physically accurate, and in many ways a true space simulator – it just doesn't ever reveal this to the player, but I could leverage it in my design here. So, the planet rendering is based upon Starfield's biome data and exact surface maps, including climate data, atmospheric composition data, and takes into account things like orbital phase, distance to the sun, distance to the moon(s) orbiting the planet and how they contribute moonlight, and so on. The philosophy is: Starfield's data is the 'truth', but we then modulate it by real physics."

Okay, I'll admit it: I'm intrigued.

“Today’s standards do not allow automakers to deploy the latest safety-improving lighting technologies, so we are bringing key experts and stakeholders together to modernize our standards and address potential causes of glare,” said NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison.

In before industry reps convince the government to mandate some new high-intensity headlights that are three times as bright while also being ten times more expensive.

For what it's worth, that's how my youth in New England was. I would walk/hitchike to the bus station, to catch a Greyhound to Boston, to then hop on the subway to head out of the city to Quincy, then walk or take the local bus to my cousin's house to visit. Roughly 100km of travel, unaccompanied, starting around age 11-12. Everyone walked/bussed/subwayed around the city.
