This sets an alarming precedent where a sitting us president can kidnap the acting head of another country (elected or not) which is an act of war, without the us being at war or having authorization from congress.

Nothing has happened to make me believe that any of these fuckers will be held accountable for their bullshit.

Because we had no option than Biden, one of the most popular Dem Senators of all time (among Republican senators....)

Dem politicians didnt like Biden, Dem voters didn't like Biden....

But the donors Hillary handed the DNC too really liked Biden, so he was the only other option we got.

A shit ton of people knew Biden would never do what was needed, and he didn't.

That doesn't mean the next Dem president won't, just that we need to understand that not everyone with a D next to their name is the same. We have to pick a good one, not just to win, but to actually fix shit so we can hold onto our gains.

We vote for an empty suit the donors want, that's all we're gonna get.

So no matter what happens between now and then, nothing is more important than voting in Dem primaries

    should, but won't.

trump can rape a 13 girl on live TV, throw the resulting a baby in the lake in life TV, and not only would his base still support him. but he legally committed no crimes, because the US is a dictatorship and the every "official" act a US president does, is legal.

He's gonna go to war in Venezuela to stop people from talking about him in the epstein files

I like that line of thinking as much as the next guy, but it strikes me as wildly misguided that the US politics has reduced to that. Like, I get the symbolic aspects of the Epstein's files for politics, but still think it is mindless engagement.

An indisputably genuine video of Trump raping a literal toddler could be released tomorrow and nothing would change. Their support base and the gears of power are already too deeply entwined to his personality. No amount of public rage or national indignation changes governments.

I could argue that he is just as horrible as Hitler but just to a smaller set of people and that it is justified. But I also bet that wouldn't change your mind. That's the problem with crimes against humanity, suffering can't be quantified. And it never would feel justified until it happens to you.

They'll be an uneasy ally for the next 20 to 30 years while we burn through the oil we're stealing from Venezuela. When the cost of mining/ importing lithium becomes more expensive than stealing it from Canada, we'll start bombing them. Hopefully the empire falls before that happens.

Hopefully the empire falls before that happens.

If you knew what that meant and the damage (long and short term) it would cause for the entire planet you wouldn't be saying that.

The Balkinazition of America would lead to WW3, except people probably wouldn't live that long to call it that.

Just look at the shit show govenors we have in the states with our ICBM sites.

You think the dude that body slammed a reporter during his campaign is above pointing the nukes in his state at his neighbor and demanding they surrender terrorist?

You think Texas won't try to take over Mexico with what they have of the remaining US military?

You think Russia wouldn't immediately invade Alaska?

You think we'll be able to keep food in stores and Americans will be able to afford enough to live?

America collapsing wouldn't be good for anyone.

If half your cabin burns down during winter 100s of miles from the nearest human, you don't burn the rest down. You patch it up as best you can until you either rebuild it or have a new one to move into. That's what we need to do when it's beyond saving, try to make it last long enough that we have something to pivot to besides "Mad Max 15: this time with more guns!"

Ok. Did I say I want to move to a "mad max 15" kind of world? No. I'm just ready for the American empire to move past it's imperialism phase. It would be nice to live in a nation that consistently cooperates with the rest of the world in our species shared goal of making life better for all of us. It would also be nice to not live as a wage slave in this shitty empire. There are many paths we could take towards that world that don't involve total anarchy or venture capitalist "libertarian" experimentation on the general public.

Far earlier than that. Look up the career, and post career, of Smedly Buttler. He was a marine commander who publicly spoke out about how he had been used as a thug for capitalism.

Particularly in the creation of Banana Republics.

Prescott Bush tried to use Buttler to overthrow FDR, but Buttler went to Congress and reported the plot. Nothing was ever done and then we got two Bush presidents.

It's regime change. Again. We've engaged in regime change many, many times in South and Central America (as well as other parts of the world) over the years, through various methods. This is, once again, the US asserting what it believes to be its "right" to rule over all of the Americas.

  • source
  • [–] 37 points 10 months ago (4 children)

Oh. I see. We are not at war. We are only bombing them, stealing their oil, and kidnapping their leader. Those are totally just friendly things normal countries do to each other.

  • source

Trump and Rubio have said they'll coerce the remaining government to open up the oil fields to US companies.

Trump also said that the vice president can remain in charge as long as she does what the US wants. Understand the implication here - the Venezuela government are bad people who stole an election and commit human rights abuses, but that's all okay to the US. They can keep doing that - they just have to open up their oil fields. If the US had said "we're making Venezuela a democracy again", that would at least provide some moral cover. They're not though. It's just oil. The US doesn't even pretend to value rights and freedoms anymore.

When I was a teenager during the 2000s, I bought the BS that the US's motivations around the world were actually benevolent. The Iraq war might have been started on faulty information but at least they were spreading democracy. I thought the people saying the motivation was oil were overly cynical. Guess I was wrong.

Can you imagine a world where abducting Trump wasn't seen as an actor of war by just about everyone in the US? I wouldn't be upset to see Trump hung as a traitor, but if Canada came in and abducted him, I'm fairly sure I'd see it as a breech of our sovereignty. I'd actually be pretty conflicted at that point...

The US will judge Venezuela by "what they do" next, Rubio says, adding that Washington will keep "multiple levers of leverage" to protect its interests

Well that's a threat. I'm sure he means that the country's population should just bend over for the US so that American oil companies can come in unimpeded.

    Fuck the USA

He says that he hopes Maduro's removal will lead to "a better Venezuela", but adds that the "number one objective is America

    Right.

That trump can do this and dump him of in Mamdani's back yard with no repercussion. He's a petulant man child. Maybe there's a minimally legitimate reason for this. But you know he's definitely childishly enjoying it for other reasons too.

It is subservient to trump. Former Giuliani office. Scandal-plagued.

The Southern District of New York (SDNY) has faced significant scrutiny due to various scandals, including high-profile resignations of top officials and ongoing investigations into corruption and misconduct. Recent events have drawn comparisons to historical moments in the DOJ, highlighting the challenges and controversies within the district.

     ABC7 New York Wikipedia

    Overview of the SDNY Scandal

The Southern District of New York (SDNY) has recently faced significant turmoil, leading to a series of high-profile resignations and investigations. This situation has been referred to as the "Thursday Afternoon Massacre," drawing parallels to the historical "Saturday Night Massacre" during the Watergate scandal.

    Key Events

    Resignations

    • Several top officials within the Public Integrity Section of the SDNY have resigned.
    • This mass resignation has raised concerns about the future of ongoing investigations, including a notable case involving New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

    Investigations

    • The SDNY is currently dealing with multiple cases, including allegations of bribery and campaign finance violations involving public officials.
    • A recent case involves Joshua Wander, co-founder of 777 Partners, charged with a $500 million fraud scheme, highlighting issues of financial misconduct within the district.

    Implications

The fallout from these events has created uncertainty regarding the SDNY's ability to effectively pursue its investigations. The directive from Washington, D.C., to drop the Adams case has particularly drawn attention, as it limits the district's options moving forward. The situation continues to evolve, with potential impacts on public trust and the integrity of the judicial process in the region.
