Last week, top ICE officials ordered officers to increase arrests and to get “creative” in their methods, including trying to nab people the officers happen to encounter in what are known as “collateral arrests.” The orders come in the wake of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller setting a quota of 3,000 immigration arrests per day, along with a sharp rise in protests against the crackdown.

In Westbury, the HSI agents didn’t respond to the gathered crowd. After a few minutes, the agents drove away. A commotion erupted down the road, off-camera, and onlookers began rushing toward the corner.

One of the Nissans, carrying two of the HSI agents, had crashed into a black pickup truck that happened to be passing through the intersection. Three eyewitnesses told The Intercept that the agents’ car had sped away. Two of the witnesses believe the Nissan blew a stop sign, causing the crash. (Nassau County police referred questions about the accident to ICE, which did not respond to an inquiry.)

I think you're attacking the symptom rather than the disease.

And i think they chose inhumanity. To call them human would not only be an insult to us, but disregarding their own self identification and chosen identity. Imposing that identity against its will seems a violation of its autonomy.

    "They chose inhumanity"

Jesus fucking Christ... You really think you have the high ground with this kind of thinking, don't you?

Hate only breeds hate. When you dehumanize your enemies, you already lost.

If ICE is meeting resistance even in a place like Westbury, then at least something is going right.

ICE's behavior has emboldened criminals to impersonate ICE agents to rob and kidnap people. This is going to end very badly indeed because a reasonable person would arm themselves when this becomes as common as it is likely to get. And a lot of people are going to get shot and killed.

I watched most of the video clip. The agents all look kinda perplexed. As if they can’t understand that nearly any species alive will go nuts when you go for their offspring.

Guys, I think ICE agents are aliens.

Well, they're supposed to snatch innocent people, kids, break apart families, so I think it's granted they must be some kind of sadistic psychopaths.

After that, the way they try to get around the illegality of what they're doing suggests they're also very, very, very dumb.

I think it's a case of psychopathy and the fact that some of these people TRULY don't see black and brown people as people. The dehumanization is truly complete to the point that they really don't understand that they're PEOPLE, with thoughts and feelings.

I didn't see a video on the archived site, didn't want to subscribe with an email to see the page. Does the video cover their acts and the following crash? Weighing my interests, maybe I'll find it elsewhere

Not the crash itself. But the direct aftermath. They see something happened down the street and start going there.

As for the agents fuckery, they get yelled at on the street outside the school and look like shocked deer at an approaching car.

I feel like my history teachers tried to warn us about this, but they couldn't say it directly and most of us didn't take the hint.

    "Does history repeat itself?"

"Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it."

What they're really trying to get their students thinking is "do we learn from history?" And the answer is a big, fat, fuck no.

Okay but have you considered that you're being a shrill alarmist commie?

  • source

Actually, I have considered that, wanting to avoid being the same kind of victim of partisan propaganda as stupid Conservatives. This is especially important to me, as I have been an Unaffiliated Independent since first registering to vote in 1977. It important to me to not succumb to the propaganda of either side.

My self-reflection has determined to my personal satisfaction that I am not shrill, I'm not an alarmist, and I'm not a commie. I have a history degree, 30 years of professional experience, and have closely watched the rise of extremist Conservatism since the mid-80s, so I am very comfortable offering my opinions with confidence. I don't worry about acceptance from MAGA Nazi Traitors. I couldn't care less about their treasonous, shallow, ignorant, violent, political opinions.

My education, knowledge, and experience has led me to believe that we are facing a divide in America as bad as the Civil War, and very possibly worse. The MAGAs are clearly taking their strategies from the Nazi Germany Playbook, and want to murder vast swathes of Americans. To recognize and warn others about it is not shrill, alarmist, or "commie," and it is not lost on me that you are attempting to shame me into silence.

It won't work. Indies like me aren't afraid in the least of Cowardly Nazi Traitors like you. We know what you are up to, and we will stop you.

To see the Canadian government start pushing bills on immigration that are similar to those put in place to allow all this to happen in the US is terrifying as well. We voted in hopes of fending off this fascist takeover and yet here we are with Drumpfkins next door and our own "left" cooking the country.

The citizens of the world are under fire everywhere from fascism and even Nazism. We all need to stand up and fight back no matter where we live.

Westbury: "in Latino-heavy New York suburbs."

Ummmmmmmm.... Unless Westbury changed in the 6 months since I've been there, it's a really wealthy area. Not that Latinos can't be wealthy, but my dad lives there, I'm literally going there Sunday. I wouldn't exactly describe it as Latino-heavy, unless you aim to describe the entirety of Long Island as Latino-heavy...

Indeed. Which honestly the characterization of Long Island as being "Latino-heavy" isn't exactly wrong. Everywhere I've worked (almost all of my work history is blue collar) I'm side by side with a not insignificant number of them. I'm honestly glad I took my father's advice and learned some Spanish in highschool, because it has been handy at work although admittedly I've forgotten most of it lol

I got lucky and got a job with spectacular (not Cigna) insurance. And my wife has recovered from both colon cancer and thyroid removal. So we all made it another year. Damaged and in much worse shape, but still holding on.

Best of luck and feel free to keep in touch.

  • I watched most of the people i love die of cancer.

I feel like it's pretty much what they deserve.

I hope they die of treatable cancer, because no doctor will touch them. That would hurt worse. I've been on the edge of death a couple times, and the ones where nobody could have helped didn't hurt emotionally anywhere near as bad as the ones where anybody could have fixed it.

I wonder if ICE agents are paid a lot more than those people would be in other jobs having the same qualifications/experience etc, and that’s the reason why they stay on. Or some massive perks or something. Why isn’t there a mass exodus of ICE agents leaving? Or maybe there is and it’s not reported? There must be some attraction?

I'm pretty much convinced they recruited all these thugs from alt-right groups and disgraced ex-police in the last few months. They don't have uniforms or badges. They wear face masks and refuse to identify themselves. They needed a bunch of guys that had no problem with being cruel and hateful and they were right there ready to step up.

Historical nitpick just because of history and not for any nefarious reason.

You mention a rag stuffed into the bottle. This is inaccurate to what the Finnish, who invented the device, did.

A rag stuffed into a bottle is easily snuffed out, and the user of the device risks spilling flammable liquid on themselves when throwing the device.

The fins, historically, tied a rag around the neck of a bottle that was sealed. The rag was exposed to air and can burn steadily, and the sealed bottle makes handling much safer. When thrown, the bottle or jar will still break and spread the liquid, and the steadily burning rag will ignite them.

Do with this knowledge what you will.

And always remember that Hollywood has a legal interest in showing you non viable ways of making destructive devices. Always think about the most practical way to do something, regardless of how you’ve seen it in movies.
