I woke up incredibly surprised but cautious.

    • 54 Senate seats (with two more still possible).
    • 228 House seats (with more to go).
    • 28 governorships (with two more potential pickups).
    • DSA winners across many races
    • Texas going blue even in the State government

I think there's one House runoff I saw, but otherwise, Trump and Republicans have given up on the whole "election was rigged" claptrap. It's a whole new world!

Oh, they're going to start with the election rigging bullshit in the next week or so. There's no way they'll quietly accept defeat.

I'm not convinced. It hasn't been polling well nor getting good reactions, if for no other reason than many voters can't see beyond their wallet.

trump doesn't care about polling, though. If he did he would have stopped showing up and ruining his party's campaigns.

I agree that he doesn't care about polling, but his handlers do; he more or less only cares whether it works, and it simply doesn't anymore, which his handlers can see in polls but likely dumb down for him.

Never thought I'd see the day. Amazing stuff. Hopefully Dems do something beyond back patting and half-measures.

The best part is that Elon spent $35 million just to lose both the senate and governor positions in Texas.

And 446 million overall. The only bad thing about this is, the ad agencies that were beyond shitty got paid.

i am not rooting for him, it is just mindblowing that an individial can have so much money that this doesn't even register. if i buy a dinner, it is bigger part of my net worth than this was for him.

Imagine if Texas stayed blue for presidential elections here on out. No more Republican Presidents

  • source

  • [–] 7 points 2 days ago (1 child)

More likely, the republicans would shift on their positions, giving ground on some topics to regain a mostly balanced representation amongst voters.

Hell if I know what positions they'd shift positions on, but no doubt there'd be some.

IMPOSSIBLE!!! I was told many times on Lemmy that Trump had rigged the election.

    This is fake news

Not rigged, but attempted to stack the deck. Premptive redistricting, suits to throw out votes before they got cast, plenty of ways to try and plausibly skew those few states that would decide things.

Also we are not out of danger yet. Most experts predicted the actual vote would go okay, but were worried about the aftermath.

The next month is going to be crazy. I predict very desperate measures from people trying to avoid jail, including Musk fleeing the US.

Nah. As long as the democrats are also led by spineless, oligarch and AIPAC-friendly do-nothings like Schumer and Jeffries, nothing important will be done. Progressive, democratic socialists need to become the majority of the party and take over the leadership in order to do anything significant. Things like impeaching corrupt SCOTUS members, impeaching and convicting Trump, Hegseth etc.

The first important step is done, dems have achieved a great victory today. But the next step will be equally as important for the future of the USA. They will have to get rid of Jeffries and Schumer ASAP. At least Pelosi is gone already.

Why would Musk have to flee? Would the Dems charge him with a federal crime that trump already said he would pardon?

I hope the Dems have more teeth this time but what happens if Musk or whoever just doesn't show up to a subpoena, or just show but claim that every answer falls under executive privilege so they can't answer.

Whatever happens I hope the Dems are smart enough to pick different leaders in both chambers. We don't need any more of Jeffries or Schumer.

  • Oh I'm sure they have suits lined up across the country ready to claim fraud perpetrated by all their usual boogeymen among other things. I can hope the courts continue file them in the round file just as much as they did with 2020.

Going to need a lot of state cases filed since inevitably he'll try to pardon everyone around him, but he can't touch state charges.

The next couple months before a new seating is going to be wild for sure.

They're not going to do shit. They know they got destroyed and the people aren't on their side. The fact that they conceded Texas already should tell you everything. It's literally their most important state outside of Florida.

So sick of the relentless and irrational cynicism on this app.

Yeah you can be a blase and full of copium if you'd like. I think the rest of us aren't willing to just sit still and assume the fascist are going to play by the rules. The price for fighting against fascism is constant vigilance. We got to keep an eye on these fuckers not go to sleep and let them do what they want while we're not paying attention.

You and your buddy Hakeem Jeffries can pretend like it's time to get along, the rest of us remember that Americans were being and are being murdered in the streets. Those lives might have meant nothing to you, but a lot of us went out voted because they do to us. Constant vigilance.

My buddy Hakeem Jefferies? Lmao yeah right.

I never said we should take our foot off the gas, I said they aren't going to reverse the election results because guess what, they fucking can't.

Mike Johnson just announced he isn't even running for minority leader next year but you think they're going to stop the new Congress from being seated? They're conceding all over the place, is that what you'd do if you were going to rig the election?

You're just another weirdo terminally online mfer who can't admit that all your whining and agitating and pessimism was based on pure delusion, and you're too cowardly to admit you were wrong.

It's nearly impossible to rig a congressional election. There are just too many seats. In a Presidential election, you only have to rig one race in the seven swing states, which was much easier.

MAGA tried a bunch of stuff, and none of it worked. They had plans for post-election, and if the races had been close it might have worked, but they got their nuts stomped so hard, so widely, that they could NEVER rig it enough.

Mike Johnson already announced that he won't seek the minority leadership next year. There's literally no whining about the election result being fake, even from Trump himself. The Republicans are conceding all over the country.

They lost. They aren't going to do shit because they can't do shit and they know it. You can't execute a coup when the entire country resoundingly rejects you. It's the same reason Orban and Vucic had to leave.
