I was using my brain as a media player and forgot I put headphones on to listen to media not hosted locally on my brain.
In my defense, it was a really catchy song.

Sometimes I do that on purpose for the noise canceling.
Me: working in silence
Headphones: "Your battery is low"
Me: heart attack
I was walking around with some open-ear bone-conducting headphones on the other night before bed trying to corral my daughter. They were connected to my phone but with no audio playing. I had forgotten I had them on.
And also didn't realize that the volume was all the way up.
Then, as I was walking into my daughter's dark bedroom, silent but for the calming white noise of a fan, I got a work email to my outlook app and it felt like the notification sound was coming from every direction, emanating from the very walls directly into my soul. I stopped and said out loud "What the actual fuck was that?!" before I remembered the headphones were on. A nice corporate jump scare to start the evening right.
Or when you’re in the pocket doing a task and you have to pee and you know you can’t take a piss rn because afterwards you won’t get back in the pocket
My brain will ignore it, until it screams PISS NOW. might as well start on those emails. I ain't getting shit done in the next hr anyway
I sometimes forget to go to the toilet : "I want to pee- OH A BUTTERFLY" then remember 45min later
Look the thing I was listenting to stopped 5 mintues ago and I just haven't had a chance to start something new.
Oh, it ended 30 minutes ago. I'll get to that right after this email...
You know that feeling where you want to take your headphones off but you forgot you already took them off a while ago so you just grab into thin air?
Not at all the same thing, but you've reminded me of one annoyance. heh.
I have dialysis three times per week that involves being in a chair, laid back for 4.5 hours. For some, they watch the provided television, but I can't stand it. I have over-the-ear headphones and I play a particular playlist every time and try to nap, and even if I can't get to sleep, I have my eyemask on, so it's a dark place with nice music to hang out.
Multiple times now I've been in a dream after having successfully gotten to sleep, and someone will talk to me in my dream, but I can't hear them because I have music playing in my headphones. (When I dream at night, no headphones, I never hear any audio in my dreams, so the lack of them talking is not unusual, except the musci playing I can hear). So in the dream, I realize I have headphones on, and I tell them - sorry, jsut a sec, lemme take these headphones off so I can hear you. And I take the headphones off, and te music is still going. So I take my headphones off again...... but the music is still playing. And I will take my headphones off a half dozen times, getting more and more frustrated that I can't make te music stop so I can hear them.
It's quite annoying, but somewhat hilarious (in an eye-rolling way) when I do wake up and remember it happening. lol
Thanks for the reminder.
It is also tradition to change tasks only to realize the new task is outside the Bluetooth range of one’s phone, which was left in some inscrutable location.
What about deciding to listen to something and then realizing you're already listening to something? I do this at least once a day.
Been rocking the aux headphone input in my care lately. This morning I was thirty minutes down the road before I realized I never hit play.
I know it's a typo, but my ADHD really enjoyed trying to imagine a situation where an aux cable would be important/meaningful enough to "be in your care".
I'm feeling attacked by the meme, then I read the comments and am contacting the FBI for witness protection.
Hold on, it's not just me?
Sitting here thinking "that's kinda weird", only to notice that I'm doing that right now...
Oh, it's the opposite for me. It's sensory overload having something stuck in my ear without having something else to overpower it.
That's why I believe in over-ear supremacy. Say no to plastic in your ears, yes to velvet around them.

That would be even worse. It's getting my ears hot.
Let me jokingly say: Clearly if headphones can get your ears too hot, your A/C isn't down enough to be comfy.
But let me seriously say: I'm sorry, that sucks. :(
