Low turn out but promising result! Before some argue the Alberta Progressive Tories split the UCP vote, so did the alberta liberal party from the NDP.

I saw that argument too but you could also assume that a lot of people didn’t want to vote for UCP any longer. And neither like the NDP (in Calgary a lot of people soured on Nenshi). So the Tories were a good non-UCP conservative option.

I'm cautiously optimistic that is what's happening.

I'm willing to have a reasonable conversation with a reasonable conservative any day. As long as you're not trying to carry water for that spectacular mistake of a party that is the UCP, I welcome the return of a principled conservative party to the province. I might not agree with them, but at least I can respect their refusal to go all the way to crazy town.

2015 Alberta General Election 2026 Alberta General Election
    NDP 5,449 (31.2%) ✅ Winner 7,461 (49.7%) ✅ Winner
    UCP / PC 5,348 (30.7%) 6,879 (45.9%)
    Wildrose / IND 5,962 (34.2%) (5,301 WR + 661 IND) 82 (0.5%)
    Liberal 668 (3.8%) 602 (4.0%)
    Total Valid Votes 17,427 15,002

Worth noting that the last time the NDP won this riding, Wildrose took a third of the vote, essentially producing perfect vote split that the NDP won off of. This time there's virtually no split and NDP got 49% of the vote (up from 31%) and beat the UCP fair and square. The combined con vote is down and the NDP vote is up. By a lot.

I combined the Wildrose and Independent into a single row to make it easy to compare its effect across the two elecrions.

Don't love the implication that defeating a split vote isn't "fair and square".

Didn't mean it that way. I'd use every tool in the system to win an election and won't badmouth a win. It does make a difference in what it means though. Specifically the number of people that have switched to the NDP. In a sense it's a more solid vote than in 2015.
