It's hard not to act smug when you're an EV driver these days

So employers will embrace work from home, right?
Not until people have real alternative commutes
Well the question that remains is how much will this Iran war break the oil economy. I think the time will come when people will be forced to take alternative commutes. That's how big of a disaster is present on the horizon.
Or maybe I'm just wishing we have a complete fuel shortage to enjoy car free living for a bit?
I think the time will come when people will be forced to take alternative commutes.
Alternative commutes do not exist in most of USA.
Imagine an America where gas prices are high and physical shortages are common. That's the future I'm envisioning. I understand alternatives aren't present, but people just biking to work is the alternative I'm envisioning.
Not possible for most Americans.
Of course not, Americans are incapable of doing anything anymore 😂😂😂
what kind of climate do you live in? where i am, weather is a huge barrier to micromobility for months out of the year.
Which weather? Usually when people say they can't because of the weather, it's bullshit. See the classic "people can bike to work in Finland but not Canada" NJB vid.
well, tornado seaon brings weeks of torrential thunderstorms at least twice a year, and winter brings subzero temps for months. add the fact that many people have at least a 30 min commute by car, and missing even one day of work gets you fired, and it becomes an impossble hurdle.
You're not counting the scenario in which distant houses that are stranded in some "suburbia" will crash in value and those places will be slowly abandoned.
Detroitisation but not because of loosing employers + degradation of city services but because it’s impractical / too expensive to live in the suburbs. Interesting idea.
One could hope. Maybe an investment in rail to those areas and more mixed use zoning to turn them back into old train stop towns were.
The cost of the house won't reduce by more than the cost of a BEV though.
Don't care m8.

Gotta hand it to him, he's done much more than any other person towards green and renewable energy and the reduction of cars and pollution. By crippling the economy and incentivizing other countries to go fully green and independent of energy coming from coal or oil. Several news have shown hydrogen power, solar, wind and atomic energy making headways. More EVs sold than combustion ones in Australia for example. More EV trucks as well. Similarly, there was an article about places in NewYork with no cars.... No noise, no deadly accidents, no tire pollution, no lack of space due to parking, and use of public transportation. ETC. He is winning at being the worse thing that could ever happen to the economy.
I live in Oklahoma and I have been having a lot of fun telling everyone that trimp is a woke plant to trick everyone into driving EV's.
Unfortunately, the reason why gas didn't triple in price is because China started burning more coal instead of gas.
So this already happened just after Richard Nixon was replaced by Gerald Ford.
Okay Gav Gav, what the fuck are you gonna do differently than Trump?
Dude is doing whatever it takes to make gas cheaper so people can drive more. It's the liberal car brain dream.
I hate cars too but can someone explain how I can get around the US without public transport? Y'all are trying to lynch anyone that drives but some of us can't ride a horse to visit our parents??
Would you get mad if parking spots were taken away to put up a bike lane? Would you be mad if an extra lane was taken away to put in public transportation? If you answer yes to these 2 questions you don't hate cars enough...
This community doesn't want to lynch people who drive, we don't fucking want cars to take up 100% of our space especially in cities!
There’s no public parking anymore anyways but I’m not sure how people 40 minutes from the city could bike easily in America but I’m sure you’ve got more wisdom to shove down our throat over it.
It's generally not on the individual to make public transport changes (besides carpooling and biking where possible), just make sure you're voting for people who are willing to make more bus routes and invest in public transport. Local elections really matter for this.
Lol, maybe you shouldn't be driving 40 mins to do stuff? Enjoy sitting in traffic and hating life, hope your insurance rates continue to increase and you end up broke and under control like your masters want you to be.
Take a train to the nearest train station, then have your parents pick you up. If your parents live in the middle of nowhere and need unorthodox transport, then leverage the unorthodox transportat they already own.
This is after the US completes a base level of unfucking their complete lack of alternatives to car transport of course.
Don’t fucking use Kalshi as a news source. GFC.
Tell that to Newsom... 🤣🤣
I would love for actual gas rations to be implemented, maybe that would finally be enough to get people to actually bike places.
It's amazing to me to think Netherlands is the way it is today due in part to the gas shortage of the early 70s.
USA did also start to reinvest in public transportation after these shortages. We have obviously ways to go.
I don't believe we will survive the Trump administration though. The federal government is absolutely going bankrupt, and with it will go any reinvestment into our public transportation. I'm a pessimist so hopefully someone can be more cheerful below.
We need to balkanize already
"As we pass Labor Day tomorrow, you'll start to see demand decline as we move out of summer driving season," Wright said on ABC's "This Week."
Seems like this is more "due to seasonal trends, we expect gas prices to go down" moreso than a command to drive less (as implied in pic and by article headline).
So the leading Democrat candidate for president is spreading fake news? Color me surprised
I agree with your analysis and I just found this post funny from Newsom. However I think there is a more serious underlying issue.

I agree with Jeff Currie that the crisis is just beginning regarding the fuel issues caused by this Iran war. What do you think?
Unable to watch video atm due to crowded area.
But completely agree on issues with oil / petroleum based products just beginning. I think the US is pretty insulated from the global effects of the near oil shut off we're dealing with, and even we are running into issues.
Just switched to hybrid car (housing situation not conducive to full EV) and crazy thankful for it. My area hasn't been hit as hard as others on gas prices. Just visited my old man and gas there is ~175% of what it was on last visit (winter 2025). He's really regretting only own diesel trucks and large V8 SUVs rn.
The two of us are reasonably well off and are absorbing the hit to finances well, but I can't imagine how it is for others. It really drives home how bad our transport options are in the US.
It's bad enough that Gavan Newsom stole Mitt Romeny's policy ideals, does he have to copy his charisma too?
