Prime Minister Mark Carney's second federal budget allocates tens of billions of dollars in new spending to tackle what the government describes as the twin challenges of our time: improving affordability in an era of high prices and securing Canada's sovereignty as it faces external threats.

The budget's new big-ticket items include generous tax measures designed to prompt an "investment supercycle," increased GST rebates to help with the cost of living, an $11.2-billion cash injection to tackle homelessness and one of the largest investments in Canadian arts, culture and identity in recent history to bolster national pride.

More funding for the CBC? Poilievre and the entire conservative party must be incensed and outraged that we waste taxpayer dollars on the CBC, when we could trust our cultural domain to American owned businesses like the Globe and Mail or Hollywood's branch plant filming in Canada.

There is a reason the conservatives are the ones promoting separatism in Quebec and Alberta. The federal conservatives want to defund the CBC because they are all aching to be the 51st state.

CPC should seriously start distancing themselves from the Reform Party nutjobs.

Send them to Bernier or let them rebuild their own christian nationalist cesspit. I know all of CPC isn't on board with the remigration enthusiasts or joining USA. They need some house cleaning. Starting with that whining cowboy with no cattle and all slogans.

Uhm.... Québec Solidaire is a socialist leftist party and they're separatists.

QS is a tiny minority. The PQ are the ones in power and they are both separatist and conservative.

So they're the separatist version of the NDP, in other words.

Also: With something like 28% of the vote I don't know that I'd call what the BQ has a mandate.

The CBC is a pretty effective government propaganda platform.

What they need is not reward the CBC for sucking up to the Liberals, but have the CBC budget set and indexed and make the Corporation untouchable politically by any party.

As it stands right now, it's a lot of milquetoast garbage journalism trying to not offend everybody and anybody.

They have some of the finest journalism in the world. CBC Ideas, The Nature of Things, Quirks and Quarks, Canada Reads, CBC Music, The Current, The Fith Estate, Cross Country Checkup, The National, Day6, CBC Sports for coverage of all our real atheletes and not Just US pro sports.

Then there is the production of shows like This Hour has 22 minutes, The Degrassi series, Schitts Creek, Heartland, The Murdoch Mysteries, The Red Green Show, Anne with an E, Dragons Den, Kim's Convenience, Road to Avonlea, SCTV, and lots more.

Then there is the mandate for local and regional coverage the privates won't touch or actively retreated from, let alone indigenous communities.

What you call sucking up to the liberals, I call defending Canada from Conservatives who would have all media funded by the rich as the only voice, then a US voice as they attempt to convert us into the 51st state.
