Non binary god? Does this mean the texas Jesus folk believe in a binary, gender fluid god?

Or that Talarico is somehow in charge of god’s gender?

The reference is to a speech given by Talarico where he explains he believes god is nonbinary (his words). The republicans made sure everyone in Texas heard that and if they know a single thing about Talarico, it’s that the guy said god is nonbinary and there are six biological sexes (he also did say that).
Because the republicans’ candidate, Paxton, is a corrupt mess impeached by his own party, they really need their voters be scared of heretic Talarico.

Man, I remember reading about some culture that actually had five formal gender structures and thinking, "That makes so much sense. Why can't we do that?" Anthropology not politics. Wish I'd bookmarked it, although said culture was probably brown people and therefore unrecognizable to the people who most need to see it.

If you want to get nitpicky about biological sex, there definitely aren’t only two. On top of XXY and X0, you have things like androgen insensitivity syndrome where someone is born with a typical vulva and vagina, but has XY chromosomes and a body unable to respond to testosterone. The SRY gene is what’s responsible for the formation of testicles and a penis, not the Y gene, so you can also have people who are XX with a typical penis and testicles who can father children. And arguing that someone assigned male at birth who can father children is actually biologically female because of their chromosomes would be losing the plot.

‘If you rule out all the exceptions it’s actually only two’ isn’t impressive to me, sorry. I even gave you an example that isn’t ‘female by default’ with the SRY gene.

And no, I won’t pick a number. I’m not a geneticist (and I highly doubt you are either), I don’t know every possible chromosome and sex organ configuration (and neither do you). You justify why there are only two sexes when I’ve given you all these examples that clearly aren’t XX and XY.

Why is it useful to pretend these people and sex configurations don’t exist and aren’t part of the full spectrum of humanity? Why does sex only ‘mean anything’ if it’s two sexes only?

You don’t have to talk about every single sex any time you’re discussing anything sex related, in probably most instances that’s not relevant. But it’s denial to act like they don’t exist or “count” because it makes thing’s more complicated. That’s intellectual cowardice.

    Re your edit:

btw this is not the area of genetics and Y is a chromosome not a gene.

You think biological sex isn’t an area of genetics? Sibling, what??

Also, the SRY gene is not the Y chromosome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex-determining_region_Y_protein

I just named multiple ones for you, what in the hell are you talking about. What I’m refusing to do is put an upper limit on it, because there is a lot going on biologically with sex.

    y is a chromosome not a gene

    My point exactly.

You literally aren’t even following this conversation. The SRY gene controls testicle and penis development. It is not the Y chromosome. It is usually found on the Y chromosome, but can be on the X chromosome as well. Someone with an XX genotype and an SRY gene will develop a penis and testes, and may go on to father children. Read the Wikipedia article I linked if you need more explanation. You want to tell me someone who was born male and produces sperm is biologically female because of their chromosomes??

Way to miss the fucking forest for the trees. If I edit that to say chromosome will you suddenly be able to comprehend the rest of my comments about the SRY gene showing up and causing penis/testicular development in people who are XX? Which was also in that comment as well, you just seemingly can’t move past AIS.

You don’t get to tell me how I have to express my opinions or argument and I have no clue why you think you do. I’m also not sure you intended ‘I am uninterested in college level discussions of sex and biology’ to be a self own, but I appreciate the honesty.

In “my system” (looking at the natural variation of the human body), there isn’t a single “the” third sex. I don’t even see the point in numbering them, frankly, because there’s always going to be some new discovery of a variant of sexual development in humans. It being more complicated than 2-3 is literally the point, it’s like demanding an exact number for how many ways proteins can fold. It’s a fucking lot and we keep finding more, what do you want from me, to just make up a number? I already said for most cases just sticking to male and female is all that’s necessary. That doesn’t make people with other sexes not exist.

You were the only person that seemed to have trouble understanding my single gene/chromosome typo in context, but I’m glad to have cleared that up for you 🤷‍♂️

I believe he was asked if there were more than two genders, or something about transexuality, and his answer was his understanding of the various ways X and Y chromosomes can mix up. Trans rights people, predictably, had a fucking shit fit.

The ad is pretty explicit about that. If god now has a binary gender, then if Talarico is elected, God will be non-binary for 6 years.

Talarico is so powerful that only electing him to be a senator seems like a big step down for him.

Isn't the argument that god looks like a dude wearing an open robe and you can see his thick, veiny god-dong when he sits down casually?

If god doesn't have a thick, drippin' hog, what even is Christianity?

I think I remember only one man (Job maybe) every was allowed to look on god a he could only see his back. That's probably because god lost the belt to his robe somewhere and knew that seeing the deitic phallus would just be too much for mortal man to handle.

Seems like a coincidence that Job could only see the back side of God. How did he get his name again?

The Catholic church (not sure about other denominations) literally teach that god has no gender : https://uscatholic.org/articles/202303/does-god-have-a-gender/

Talarico actually explained why he said that just before he said it, and it was for similar reasons. The original texts used gendered words to refer to God. Sometimes, they used feminine words, and sometimes masculine words.

Jesus identifies as man, but being a virgin birth, he cannot have the Y chromosome...

Virgin birth means there was no sexual intercourse. IVF allows conception without intercourse and certainly doesn't prevent the introduction of Y chromosomes.

First successful IVF was in 1978. Jesus was born more than 30 years before that.
