At this stage of AI advancements and industry adoption, I believe most newly released games that have opted to not disclose the use of AI are lying. And steam's choice of what constitutes AI contributions are misleading, most people don't know that not having an AI disclosure doesn't mean no AI use What-so-ever. As the article states AI code doesn't need to be disclosed, which is the component of the game that has seen the the most migration towards AI.

I don't know what role that AI disclosure plays anymore. especially when steam itself doesn't verify publishers claims. I think it's there just to please steam fans and maintain that cool kid aura.

Why do you think so? AI assistance is common for code, but many games absolutely don't use gen-AI assets.

I don’t know what role that AI disclosure plays anymore

It allows people to avoid games with gen-AI assets, what's unclear about that?

Why should AI generated assets be disclosed but not AI generated code. It is the bugs that break games and make the experience mesirerable.

And if players oppose AI from a moral stand point, than making an exception for code, is misleading to the end users, who don't know the intricacies of the AI disclosure criteria.

I completely agree, Steam's disclosure rules don't work for anyone who wants to avoid AI from a moral standpoint.

It is the bugs that break games and make the experience mesirerable.

Yes, bugs break games, but also buggy games always existed and reviews and public opinion have always handled informing potential buyers of that. I know there are games which are incredibly buggy because they were vide coded, I played them and was disappointed. But I also have no doubt that there are games that are less buggy because the devs use AI to check the code they write for problems. Just like all the news stories we hear about security vulnerabilities being found due to AI scanning, so are mundane bugs found with AI scanning.

Vibe coded code? Yes will have bugs. Human written code with additional AI review will have less bugs. You would still want to avoid it if you have a moral issue with it of course, but it is higher quality than if AI wasn't used. Putting it all in one bucket is misleading.

Why should AI generated assets be disclosed but not AI generated code.

Because games are art, people play them to experience something another human being created. There is no excuse for AI generated asset, and they always bring the quality of the game down. While AI assisted code can bring the quality of the game up, it's not as black and white. Though it often doesn't.

AI disclosures should go the route of it being voluntary like how foods can choose to promote they are organic, dont use pesticides, no food coloring, etc.

Same should go for AI with a sort of Nintendo seal of quality where games can choose to say no AI generated assets, etc. It can turn into a way to promote themselves to stand out from those who don't say anything.

Bf6 doesn't disclose AI usage and its clear its used on the cosmetics including paid skins

The patches are also janky which makes people think at least some code is also ai generated

Most editors if not all support AI and include it so its going to be very hard to say noone uses it during development anymore.

But clearly difference between responsible use and slop.

Remember editor's have had Intelisense and other similar functions for decades

Edit: for the down voters care to comment?

Do you think bf6 isn't using any AI?

Do you think there are no valid use cases for AI?

please lets not compare gen AI and language servers, and type checkers. there is no comparison to be made here.

The people in this thread are being disingenuous enough to compare AI disclosure to ingredient labels on food. You're not going to get a fair answer to your question.

Unless you think being poisoned is the same as being subjected to AI artwork, because Steam still allows AI assisted code, so the moral reasons to be anti-AI are out the window.
