Hey, sure I'm power user, so, I know what is usable and what is just brick.

All of that is true haha. My friend bought one and it wasn't really usable out of the box. I had to do a major debloat for him to be able to use the browser properly.
Huh, 4bg for Windows 11 sounds like a joke. Without severe debloating, this will feel like 2021 Chromebook.
Out with Windows 11 26H2 (1st october 2026). Deployment for every users come later this year, hard to say when.
Remember that 4gb is the official minimum specs for Windows 11. Also yeah, it's been out for how long?
I've used windows 3.11, 95, 98, me, xp, xp64, vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11. It's fine. Not perfect, none of them are, but i don't see the train wreck that gets memed all over this platform either. Maybe it helps that I avoid the home skus and stick with pro for personal use?
went from 3.1 to 10, then noped out to LMDE about 3 years ago (had been 1/2 ass'd booting to Ubuntu for a couple years)
Have one legacy app i use on my gfs laptop that has W11, this is the last year I'd need to use it, what a fuxking mess ,it popped up asking me to change to Edge, did I want McAcee, and a 1/2 dozen other things... no, fuck you. Had to reboot twice as she's away and lot of updates but that's ok, I had a kernel update in LMDE yesterday that needed a reboot as well
and everytime FF updates on LMDE I reboot, or i lose my two side by side browser windows and 1/2 my opened tabs (only re-opens one browser window with one lot of tabs if I close down FF and re-open)
The last good version of windows was win2k.
Linux advocates and people advancing European tech independence love Windows 11. 😃
Haha I'm just like you there, I liked 7 as well, 10 was the last one I was ok to use, I used 11 at work first and downloaded Linux Mint that same week. Using it on a laptop, being so bogged down is hilariously, a lot like playing with a month old $200 smart phone, despite how great the specs you paid for are.
Like some others said, I also generally liked windows for a long time. I liked 7, was concerned about 10, but that was generally ok. 11 compared to 10 is complete trash and I jumped to Linux. After using Linux daily for a few years, any time I have to touch my windows work laptop, it's a really frustrating and tedious experience. The file explorer takes like 30-45 seconds to actually open and be usable, and the updates are so fucking long for no reason and happen at the worst times. There's more, but those are the two I deal with as I try to touch it as minimally as possible nowadays
my laptop runs Windows 11, and thank god it has fans, because it uses them
I'm indifferent since I only use it on my work computer and any product I produce is theirs anyway so I don't care where they store it or whether its secure.
I grew up with windows. windows makes using a pc easy, imo. However, Windows 11 is just the next iteration of enshitification. AI ingestion everywhere. Requiring accounts on a new OS. Who tf uses edge voluntarily. It turned me to Linux full-time, other than my work assigned laptop of course. I can get things to work pretty easily, people are just scared of command line and windows hides that from users who get intimidated by it. Instead of navigating to the website and downloading some potentially malicious software you can instead use a command to install that software. It’s so much nicer and cleaner.
Oh, hi, thanks for showing up this community, first time seeing. I may not be the one You seek tho.
Quite nice and fair rules You have here, to be civil and not rude, after all what win 11 did to us... community blocked. Boink boink.
I've been building Windows apps as a hobby since Visual Basic 4 and Win32. Then UWP came along and I had to relearn everything.
Now Microsoft has ditched it for WinUI 3, and I'm not learning yet again because I ditched Microsoft to Linux.
No wonder developers, Microsoft's own Weather app included, are reaching for WebView2.
"Please baby, give me another chance. This time I mean it."
I swear the settings in the new settings menu move around and its fucking annoying. They also only reveal the surface level stuff and make you dig to find the actual configuration options. Grr I hate windows
Settings is much more consumer friendly, it’s fairly consistent with how mobile OS Settings apps work.
Control panel is much nore suitable to power users.
Honestly, they ought to keep both. They’re essentially just GUI for changing registry entries anyways.
They take years to inplement a rewrite,
But management comes down and says copilot copilot copilot and they get that shit out in short time.
Windows development team isnt working on trying to get a better product as long as the first goal management thinks of is profitability.
They should keep control panel and kill off settings. That whole UI is so idiotic.
They started 'replacing' the control panel with the release of w8 lol. Just 15 years to do one task. I wish I could do two tasks, take 30 years, then get a fat bonus + 401k on my way out the door, laughing the whole way.
Maybe it's just an agreement with all the windows devs that they will do fuck-all to force the user shift we are seeing now. Upper management has no clue and everyone is in agreement with things like 'putting the taskbar back on the top edge is going to require 5 years and 2m R&D' 'understandable, whatever it takes'.
Therefore it must die.
I really fucking hate this timeline.
Amazing how it's taken this long, if the full on transition to the new settings app was done when Windows 10 released it might have matured by now and actually felt usable
The control panel is the place with the most useful options.
Laughs in Omarchy Linux
