Cool. I just thrifted an iMac G5 the other day, excited about its PowerPC architecture, and I while I was driving back, I was wondering if the Wii U was the most powerful PowerPC computer.

I'm definitely going to have to look into this. I have a bunch of old Pocket PCs and I wonder if they would have a similar, simple solution.

I've of printed plenty of things through irda, but it would be neat to actually hook them up with a physical connection not to mention that would give me a wider variety of printers to choose from.

This is really cool! I only have a Palm TX with the USB sync cable so I'm curious how you accomplished this?

I assume Palm is it attached to some parallel port adapter or something?

I would have liked to have seen OpenBoot with Forth resurrected, rather than coreboot/libreboot. It would have been nice to have hardware-independant drivers bundled with hardware and available at boot stage. I still have a SunFire V210 (I think) sitting in my rack. Not sure it still boots.

My first thought was something like the RC2014? It uses a z80 (an 8-bit processor that was still in production until very recently iirc) as the processor of choice and I have seen a community for the thing!

They also have a Mastodon presence. That's actually how I first heard of them!

The second smartest thing to do is to have someone you know / trust offer to buy the machines from the charity before they are destroyed (by getting those forwarded away from them, for example), assuming they still get some. Consider, you have a potential good, actionable source to nab good hardware.

The smartest is to get charity policy changed, but that's more of a hassle.

I'm aware of coreboot. I was not aware that the project managed to increase support to include configurations for all chips that predate IME and PSP. Last I recall when I looked at coreboot, there were chips that they didn't think could ever be supported, even without nannyware. I wasn't pushing a bullshit problem, I was raising legitimate concerns for problems that I didn't know had solutions. If you don't want people to raise honest, good faith concerns to you then you better be extremely vigilant that you don't step in shit.
