Cool. I just thrifted an iMac G5 the other day, excited about its PowerPC architecture, and I while I was driving back, I was wondering if the Wii U was the most powerful PowerPC computer.

Are we at the point where we need a set up where java should almost always be off?

I think so, if you are vigilant about your privacy. That's what I've been doing for the past decade. I use uMatrix with IronFox configured with everything off by default, and I manually approve page elements. Occasionally it slows me down when filling out forms I need or something, but generally it's fine.

I think uMatrix cannot be used with Vanadium. I would personally recommend IronFox over Vanadium. GrapheneOS devs have recommended avoiding Firefox browsers in the past, but that may have changed ever since Firefox added per-site isolation to Android.

This is quite reductive of the situation. Android is not going anywhere, and neither are the third-party app repositories.

AOSP will be further restricted, but that really only affects anyone who doesn't use LineageOS / GrapheneOS / your favorite ROM. The Venn diagram people who care about side-loading, people who can't afford to switch to a supported device, and whose device is new enough to support the side-loading restriction is not zero, but they will be smart enough to go through the process of enabling side-loading.

Sorry, let me be a bit more specific. This article is an advertisement for Cosign from its CEO. It's an AI analysis of information provided accessible to an yone with a login to CoStar, and I might add, a poor one. It uses a lot of words to say little. If I were to guess, he paid AZBigMedia to publish it using a small amount of his advertising budget.

I don't care if it's a boring topic. I welcome niche. I don't care if people use AI to speed up their process as long as the result isn't trash. I commented because the article a waste of time. Please don't take this personally, you didn't write it, and maybe you found the topic it covers interesting.

I don't mean to be unkind, but if I see slop, whether human or AI, l will continue to warn others so they don't waste their time. I know the Phoenix community is pretty much dead, but please, no content is better than trash. Please be more selective what you share here.

I'm pretty sure if I accidentally press "OK", I get charged extra. In addition to the pop-up, I get the same thing as a permanent notification until I reboot – if I try to disable the notification, I get "These notifications can't be modified", as it is using the built-in system SIM Toolkit. I am using GrapheneOS. Name and shame: MOVISTAR.

Pop-up: "Ultimo dia! Obten in modulo de 30 GB x30 dias por solo $30 en tu proxima factura. Activado dando clic Aceptar

In the US, on eBay you can get a used Pixel 7 Pro for around $200. It's a flagship from a few years ago, and you can install GrapheneOS. I'm willing to bet it's more powerful than this phone, too. I'd always recommend something like that first. Maybe not as feasible for people overseas though?

Yes, OEM Android is becoming more restricted, but LineageOS is compatible with most of these current devices and isn't going anywhere. Disclaimer: was never interested in emulation handhelds. I use my 3DS or phone with attachment.

Hi there, I wouldn't be making this post if I saw another one about it, but...

I both dislike centralization and nonfree Javascript. I believe the spirit of Lemmy embraces both ideals, however, Cloudflare both promotes a centralized internet that requires the execution of nonfree scripts to interact with it. I understand that bots (epsecially LLM powered) are a pervasive issue that plagues this (and many other) communities. I also understand that being logged-in prevents the requirement of using Cloudflare's captcha, so that only a one-time login is required, although I'm constantly blocking requests to cloudflareinsignts.com.

Finally, I understand that I the alternatives are not necessarily effective, although it seems to work for many projects. I'm not saying other solutions are better for short or medium term, but I was wondering if the management were planning on eventually replacing it.
