Say what you will about corporate landlords, but that part is at least unlikely. Minto will wait until something else forces me out before they renovate this unit.
Note: Unlikely does not mean 0. But I've been here 10+ years so...

Agreed. This is objectively a good thing. Will objectively be a better thing if Ford and Sutcliffe actually do their part.
As much as I shit on Carney, I'm glad the Liberals included:
The budget includes $11.2 billion to tackle homelessness over four years, starting next year, and $17.8 billion over 10 years. The money will help build new supportive and transitional housing across the country and commits to expanding non-market housing and building 200,000 new homes across Canada in the next decade.
Of course, the devil is in the details. Here's hoping they get it right.
I sincerely hope you don't get renovicted
Sure they can. Just not in Ottawa.
I will die in my rent controlled living room. Mostly because I can't afford to move out.
That is so... so fucking wrong. Holy shit people can't live
ugh...
Airport officials warned against the development due to concerns over building heights and noise levels for future residents.
No shit.
No no, this time it's different.
Don't ask questions
So…..same as the last two years?
Snow removal costs have been rising steadily over the past few years, becoming the second biggest expense for our condo board following insurance. I wonder if it will now overtake it?
Not to be outdone, I'm sure the insurance companies will be like "Hold my beer! magic hand waving Presto - climate-related increases wah wahhh"
No such thing. Especially in modern society.
The costs are passed to the customer? And I thought they are saints! Fuck.
Enforcement fixes the problem:
The province’s ban on speed cameras has “significantly” affected speeding and driver behaviour at former automated speed enforcement sites, according to City of Ottawa data that shows compliance with posted speed limits dropped from 87 per cent to 41 per cent in the first three months after the cameras were removed.
High-end speeding, where drivers are at or exceeding 15 km/h above the posted speed limit, has also increased from 0.3 per cent to 4.5 per cent since the cameras were deactivated in November.
...
Instances of high-end speeding dropped from 14 per cent prior to the cameras being installed to 0.3 per cent after four years.
That rate rose to 2.2 per cent within a week of the cameras being removed in November 2025. The rate rose to 3.3 per cent after three weeks, 3.9 per cent after eight weeks and 4.5 per cent after 12 weeks.

The Sconewitch
Enforcement that actually enforced something would. Put some jail time behind some of these driving violations. Especially if they're unlicensed.
I hope Queers for Palestine don't forget to raise their voices against homophobia within muslim-majority spaces.
We need to figure out a way to have honest conversations on this issue without flaming the Islamophobia flames or pinkwashing Israeli atrocities and ethnic cleansing.
In this mostly Left leaning space, we have to allow an honest and free conversation on this issue instead of trying to sensor people or dictate how everyone else is allowed to interpret social issues unfolding in front of us.
Gay muslims exist. LGBT+ Sikhs exist. In real life, not on some obscure Leftist board.
Social media posts and printed posters celebrating inclusivity with illustrations of hijabi lesbians were forcefully removed from our Canadian university because fundamentalist muslims got offended. This isn't inclusivity nor acceptable.
Paul Calandra and DoFo are assholes, sure. But WTF is Left doing bowing to the demands of fundamentalist religious orthodox within minority communities?
It’s like a pillow, but decorative.
Cushions?
“We’ve tried nothing and this consultant sold us speed cameras”
Enforcement doesn’t fix the problem. It just puts numbers on it.
Cops always side with right winger protests. OPP visibly sided with the truckers as well as the Ottawa cops, RCMP would as well had they been forced into the issue.
It's ACAB for a reason.
They all do. It's class warfare FFS it's unreasonable to think they don't act in unison while pushing social issues to distract us.
The problem is of any interaction cops have with the public, catching a DUI is definitely close to the top for chance of a violent incident.
Especially when we all know full well those speed cameras worked, and couldn't be harmed like a person can.
It's also reasonable that the chance of violence would be even higher than with cops since it's unlikely the ticket giver is armed. People get violent with even parking tickets, so that's going to be a non negligible percentage of interactions.
As much as I hate cops, running traffic is kind of what I want them doing, assuming they're not targetting anyone anyway. They're pretty much worthless at every other aspect of their jobs as far as the public facing ones anyway. They're obviously very good at protecting Capitalists, since that's their actual job.
We do we need some bloated guy with a gun to hand out speeding tickets?
Change the law to allow deputies like parking enforcement to write speeding tickets. They will pay for themselves.
