This is complete nonsense, I've never seen a dog in a crate in my whole life nor heard anything as retarded from any of the dog-owners I know.

Obviously the dog should know that its whole house is its home, and if you want to give it a spot for itself, for the love of god don't give it a fucking jail cell.

Is this an American thing or something?

    I just wanna x2 this.

Yeah, its totally normal for many dogs to see a kind of kennel as essentially 'their bedroom'.

Now, my family and myself have raised a few dogs, always after adopting them.

We didn't use kennels often, just beds in a kind of nook or cranny of the house/apartment. We'd only use kennels if they were so rambunctious that they became problematically instrusive to another dog's bed zone.

(We'd just stagger an older dog, and a younger dog, usually 3-5 years apart in age)

Only one of them was actually afraid of kennels, and thats because the home we adopted her from...

Not only did they physically abuse her by letting toddler humans try to ride this under 1.5 yo dog like a horse, they also put her kennel in the cold, unlit, garage, and would just forget her there, without food or water, sometimes soiling herself from not being let out in over 24 hrs.

That dog legitimately had PTSD her whole life... she only ever actually barked maybe 5 times in her whole life, because the first 1.5 yrs of her life, she got smacked every time she barked, by these original owner people.

Otherwise she'd do this kind of mumbling, internally suppressed bark. Nothing was wrong with her voicebox, we checked. She just legit had PTSD, and the few times she did get so concerned or excited that she did actually bark, she would then also begin full body quivering, expecting someone to hit her.

We obviously never did that. Goddamnit, I loved that dog.

So anyway, basically, thats the level of fucked up and horrible you have to be to a dog, to make them genuinely afraid of kennels.

But yeah, if you are not horrible demon people who use a dog kennel as a dog torture device, then yeah, most dogs will just view them as basically their bedroom.
