Oh for sure -- I actually have a bit of a fox problem, and they do seem to have a knack for chewing on glass fiber... whenever the internet goes down I flip a coin and wonder if it's my provider or the foxes haha

One of the tipping points for me to go 5G is that no matter which provider I used I kept getting the same type of faults and they couldn't fix it. New lines, changing master sockets, etc. multiple times. Something was wrong some where so I thought fuck it, not paying all that money for a shitty line which breaks all the time.

I've been using a Three 5G broadband deal for the last 3 to 4 years. I bought an external antenna and it works great. Occasionally Three can struggle with loads but mostly I have all the bandwidth I need. It was £24 a month on a monthly rolling basis (£20 if a 1/2 year package was bought) but think it's £25.50 now or something. Still loads cheaper than what I was paying before for proper broadband.

It's the sort of decision whereby I'd expect us to look like France, on the streets and up in arms.

The reality is, if it's anything like their decision to change Coco pops to 'Choco Crispies' 2 decades back - it'll die a death as soon as sales free fall.

I like them well enough. They are environment dependent but I can watch them on tv with a low volume or muted. Its the colors and shapes really. Ill admit that watching the around the world new years ones are at least as much about seeing the locations. Also my dog hates them big time so im not wild about them going off locally. Lastly I worry they are just wasteful and not good for the environment. I kinda wonder if drones are better but they would need to be used a whole lot over their lifetime so im not sure if they are resource wise.

I don't mind a single occasion for 5-10 minutes, maybe twice a year.

Yesterday it felt like I was living in a microwave, next to the popcorn bag. That's less preferable.

It's a first world problem, but I've been playing a game where relying on sounds is key. Including distant explosions. Wearing headphones (otherwise I would have hated bonfire night even more) it was hard to tell what's real and what's not.

But even outside of the game, after a while it gets pretty exhausting for me. I don't think the general populace is responsible enough to use fireworks safely and considerably.

the boom boom crowd doesn't have the brainpower to know how selfish and stupid their explosive fetish is. we deal with it twice a year at minimum here in the US (4th/new year). It's absurd. and every fucking year some poor kid blows off a bunch of fingers because their parents don't realize kids should be supervised WITH EXPLOSIVES.

edit: ah here we have the downvotes from the low iq boom boom blow fingers off of children crowd, right on time

same here, the noise and environmental devastation. I understand childrens thinking they're fun but audits? Most depressing though is others don't see it like this, that a few bright sparkles are all it takes to distract is more the issue

As a teenager I loved it. Blowing stuff up was always fun, honestly that part still is but these days I blow up electronics.

As an adult. I fucking hate it and can't wait for it to be globally banned. The stress on household pets alone is enough reason to ban it, never mind the teenagers blowing off their hands or the huge mess it causes. And of course the mess gets cleaned by other people than the ones that made it.

Thankfully the Netherlands banned it, however our neighbors didn't. Trash people will buy overpowered fireworks from Germany and set them off here which is arguably worse.

  • You're far from the only one. I used to be indifferent. For most of my life I lived on the outskirts of the suburbs of a major US city. Homes were far enough away from each other that it wasn't too big of a deal to hear them in the distance.

Then I moved into a city proper. I hate them. I hate them so much. What once was a minor and predictable annoyance was now a month long game of "Fireworks or Gun Shots?" twice, sometimes several times a year. Because you can't just launch them on the proper holiday, no. You gotta do it a week in advance.

One time I lost the coin flip. It was gun shots, not fireworks. My wife and I are lucky the strays were above our heads.
