First of all, I think this is a bit.

But (and this is my understanding, although I've never tried it) on Kalshi you buy a contract that says "if X happens, this contract can be redeemed for Y money" and then you can, in turn, sell that contract to someone else before it expires/pays out. So you can actually make money by trading the contracts regardless of whether they pay out or not—you buy at some price, and then if the contract price goes up (either because the event seems more likely, or because many people were buying it in the hopes of selling later) you can sell it to someone else at a profit. This is the sense in which it's like a stock market.

So there's like two layers to the joke here, one is intentionally misunderstanding the way Kalshi is like stocks (it's actually more like options, which do expire and become worthless) and the other is that sometimes stocks really do go to zero.

All the time. Four-guys-in-a-line is one of my favorite genres. Final Fantasy 6 might be my favorite one.

More recently I quite liked Dungeon Antiqua 1 and 2, which are indie games. 1 is like "What if Final Fantasy 1 was slightly more like Wizardry (and also just one big dungeon)?" and 2 is like "What if Final Fantasy 3 was all dungeons?"

When I went to Japan a lot of people spoke English. I don't think we had any trouble. Everyone was very helpful. At one point my granddad and I were looking at a map trying to figure out how far we were from our hotel, and a guy came up and asked us in English if we needed help, and when we told him where we were staying he walked with us like 2.5km to make sure we got there! (This was in ye olde days before smartphones, so we were using paper maps.)

Doesn't clicking the dislike button move the video up in the algo anyway? It's "engagement." If you don't like a video the best thing to do is "not interested" it on your recommendation page.

I didn't finish it (I'm a serial quitter, I almost never finish games) but I enjoyed that Ryder was sort of an anti-Shepard. I played the Shepard trilogy as a Vanguard and even on the highest difficulty Vanguard!Shep is an unstoppable biotic death god, especially in 3 where Charge > Nova > Charge > Nova is possible. On the hardest difficulty in Andromeda, Ryder is a plucky underdog who has to somehow squeak by against enemies who frankly outclass them one-on-one (or at least my Ryder was; perhaps there is a stronger build I could have been using, but this one sold the fantasy).

Similarly I remember cracking up when Ryder tried to call a crew meeting about something important and immediately lost control of the room.

I don't remember much about the plot, tbh.

You want the article to not show the image that it's talking about, that illustrates his dangerously cavalier attitude towards nuclear annihilation? I feel like the president posting images of himself with his finger on the button is relevant info.

My biggest "issue" (it's not an issue for me, but it's infuriating to people who watch me play) is spending huge amounts of time faffing around with stuff that has extremely little impact on the game. I have over 80 hours in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and have not finished Part 1 on any route. I'm checking out Aion 2 and have spent ages walking around harvesting ingredients and clicking on minor collectibles and grinding enemies for pet souls instead of doing the main story that rewards the lion's share of XP, so I'm basically not really progressing at all.

I'm not lost, but it might look like I was lost if you were watching over my shoulder and wondering why it is taking me so freaking long.

We need more people like Chloe Freeman.

Freeman’s employer did not see it this way. When police questioned her (thus collaborating with ICE), she openly said that she disagreed with ICE separating immigrants from their families. Trinity Health fired Freeman and has refused to make any public statement on the events of May 28. It is criminal that this and other hospital systems allow ICE and CBP agents to enter medical buildings.

From the title I foolishly thought that maybe he built a machine learning system to optimize player selection by training on the results of hypothetical fantasy football teams from previous seasons, or something, and I thought "well it might not be in the spirit of the competition but at least he's having fun tinkering."

No, he just handed it off to an "agentic" system and lets it play for him because he couldn't be assed. Why even bother?

I forgot about the Wired interview. It's kind of wild that AntiNorn intentionally got people riled up and then called them vindictive.

Like, if I joined a community for some wholesome show and started posting distressing gore of people's blorbos, and when people expressed their disgust my response was to say "UM ACKSHULLY blorbo isn't real, so there's no reason for you to be distressed when seeing this image" and then I posted some more stuff I knew would piss them off, I would fully expect to be ostracized.

For context, Extended Information is a mod that shows hit chance popups for every shot, like the older Perfect Information, which (when it works) helps you develop a better sense of how much risk you're really incurring from enemy shots.

I've got a long and complicated mod list which is mostly (but not entirely) cribbed from ChristopherOdd's last Youtube playthrough, and I've noticed that the percentages EI displays, especially for enemy shots, are wrong. The most obvious evidence is that they frequently miss shots that EI displayed as 100%, but it will also show absurd numbers like 89% chance to hit by a basic trooper against a target in full cover while the shooter is wounded, and they'll usually also miss.

I think the problem is with shots that are modified by certain other mods, and I currently suspect EU Aim Rolls (which separates hit, crit, and dodge into separate rolls, as well as offering some specific tweaks) and Complicated Red Fog (which applies penalties to aim and other stats based on missing health).

There is a link in the Steam workshop page to a Discord server where supposedly the mod developer posted an experimental, updated version that solved some of this (at least with regard to EU Aim Rolls), but that link is now defunct (either the server no longer exists or it's private). Does anyone happen to have that version and be willing to share it, or know of another, more compatible mod?

Edit: For now I have disabled EI and I'm using EU Aim Rolls' built-in stat reporting. It isn't as nice, because it's just plain text on the right side of the screen instead of a color-coded popup over the shooter, and it doesn't have some of the extra info on the HUD that EI provides, but it does appear to be right, which is a good start!
