Oh, I don't have the ability to feel disgust anymore. Had my first bite of dinner, baby unloads an explosive charge in his nappy. Clean it up while I finish chewing, carefully fold the nappy so nothing spills anywhere, wash orange stains off my hands, sit down and continue with my dinner. Green berets squatting in the jungle haven't been properly desensitised yet.

Apparently, if you avoid doing a thing for a brief period of time, it is a demonstration of self-control and virtue. Thus, you are a better person and can nut, drink and eat uncontrollably for the entire rest of the year. I don't personally believe in such practices. Do anything whenever you feel like it, but in moderation.

I'm gonna say it: Jack Kerouac sucks. I've read many different authors, but none have been as annoyingly unreadable as him. You're supposed to "ride the wave of his thoughts?". No thanks. To me, that just sounds like a vain excuse for bad writing.

Asking Brits who saw Threads when they were in school in the 80's (I guess you're probably in your early to mid 50's now, right?).

How did you and others in your class react to the film? Did you and your peers worry much around that time?

Just finished it myself, and it was very convincing in how it depicted the effects of a nuclear attack. Some of the events detailed as precursors to nuclear war were also worryingly similar to current events.
