I think it's very much dependent on your hardware.

I had some issues with my Nvidia drivers getting messed up when the card was relatively new. I haven't had any issues in the past two years though.

I read this as another person who knows the parent in the last panel well letting the kids go wild playing make-believe and playing along. Then the parent in the last panel is teasing them for getting so into it themself during the three days the kids were with them.

There wasn't even alone (as in "I left the kids alone with you…") that would imply that they normally take care of the kids together.

My first thought was grandparent or auntie/uncle.

If you squint a little it looks like a toothy flesh creature. It looks quite appetizing compared to my usual opinion of lightly processed tomatoes.

In my case it's mostly that browsers and as such also electron Apps unfocus textboxes when the window is unfocused for seemingly no reason, sometimes without giving visual indication meaning that I need to reselect it to copy it.

I do also think that exams are often a pretty bad way of checking how well a concept is understood and grades often show how well certain things are memorized instead.

I should probably do some more research before I say anything more about this though as that impression is mostly anecdotal.

  • Gender Census 2026 (survey.gendercensus.com)

The 2026 edition of the gender census is live until "at least 13th August 2026". It is survey on the language (mostly in English) that we (want to) use to for ourselves and other members of the community. Here's an excerpt of what the homepage has to say:

The Gender Census is an annual survey that collects information about the language used by people whose genders are not adequately described, expressed or encompassed by the restrictive gender binary. It has taken place every year since 2015.

If you can’t easily put yourself into just one of these two [binary genders], click here to take part.

I'm glad somebody is gathering data on-our language. Though I do wish the results were analyzed a little more scientifically. I also wish more surveys like this existed in other languages. If you know of any please let me know!

I am also now (rather spontaneously) considering creating a similar survey in German, though I would need to look into how much effort that would actually be as far as data protection is concerned.

If you have insights from running similar surveys or have thoughts on the 2026 gender census I'd be very curious to hear about it. I am pretty busy the coming week but will try to get back to anyone who comments :)

I've recently been playing more games with controller support on Steam and have had some issues getting them to work.

I have a DualShock 4 Controller (for a PS4) and it works fine for some proton games with controller support (Rainworld and BG3 for example) work fine out of the box. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Balatro both work with the default settings but only on Wayland (Hyprland). The games that work only on Wayland display Xbox button glyphs, leading me to believe that they are using Steam Input. I have in the past been able to play games with no controller support using Steam Input to emulate keyboard inputs on x11.

I am now trying to play LEGO Lord of the Rings which has Xbox Controller support but not Playstation Controller support and as such would require Steam Input. I would be happy to get it working on either x11 (i3) or preferably Wayland (Hyprland) but so far the closest I have gotten is being able to select my controller as an input device in the settings (by a button press being detected), this did however not allow me to perform any menu inputs and I was not able to reproduce it after restarting the game.

Overall my experience with my controller has gotten slightly worse over the past years (x11 only, I have barely used it when on Wayland) and I was wondering if anyone in this community had experience with non Xbox/Steam controllers in Steam that they would be willing to share.

    A few of side notes:

    • The controller works fine for Steam in big picture mode and it is an official Play Station controller from Sony.
    • My Steam is installed via flatpak on the device using x11 and the device using Wayland.
    • Both devices are setup with EndeavourOS (arch based).
    • I run most of my non native games on Proton Experimental.

If I missed some important details that could help resolve my issues or explain why the controller behaves so different on the two devices I'm happy to answer questions :)
