that is what my laptop uses. Why mine works and yours does not is very complicated. I looked into it a bit. Firstly, my laptop is a Dell Latitude 7400 (non 2 in 1 model). This supports both modes, but mine is configured to use s2idle. One of the huge pluses of this laptop is that is had a stock Ubuntu option when it was sold. You could get it shipped to you with Ubuntu preinstalled. Now, I don't use Ubuntu I use Debian but the Dell firmware is still configured to support Linux out of the box. So Linux isn't being treated as a 2nd class citizen for this laptop. It's getting the VIP treatment just like Windows.

Another thing is my actual configuration. Thermals prior to sleep matter a lot. If you laptop is too hot it will fail to enter the sleep state it needs to. Meaning it stays hot and continues to run and dies fast. I have heavily modified my laptops thermals. I have the CPU capped at 2.5Ghz, I have tlp running, and I have high quality thermal pads added inside the chassis to spread heat around to the magnesium back plate. Because of these mods my laptop does not use its fan, and the CPU hovers around 50C passively while in use. This means I never have a problem with suspend due to thermals.

I also have components, like my SSD, that are modern and support deep sleep states. My SSD is a WD Black SN770 1TB. Which is both pretty power efficient and supports deep sleep states.

Another thing is that the tlp and powertop tweaks are preventing wakeup triggers that would pull it out of suspend. and of course the last big thing is just that I keep my firmware up to date. Dell released firmware specifically to fix modern standy issues and I have that update. Dell ships easy firmware updates to linux users and you can install them with a few clicks and a reboot. Another advantage of the Linux native support.

Really can't reccomend the laptop enough if you want a used business class machine its great and you can find them for 200ish$.

Well idk what about my setup isn't modern? I guess my laptop is a few years old but its not that old. 2020 model. and I run debian stable so not bleeding edge but not crazy. My laptop is just one that ships with an ubuntu option and so it has good linux compatibility in general. So that probably helps.

Self Checkouts are not even self checkout anymore. You go up and scan your stuff then 2 times out of 3 someone has to come over and approve that you scanned everything. At that point just open the normal lanes back up

I think your arguement is kind of silly. Kid's schedules are bloated? With what though? Is it actually valuable? Maybe if they're bloated we should... get rid of the bloat and add in things that would actually help them.

Also, you aren't teaching them what will be useful in a home in 30 years. You are teaching them what will be useful NOW. When they go to college, or get an apartment in a few years. If we didn't teach people things that changed we wouldn't teach SCIENCE! But we do. Because when you have a baseline and things change you can update what you know over time.

On top of that, your argument is self defeating. You are similtaneously saying kids are too busy for a class on this stuff but also saying they should just teach it to themselves in their free time. If they're so busy when do you expect them to do that? The entire point of a class is so that we can MAKE TIME for them to learn this stuff.

I genuinely think that you should take a class in highschool that teaches basic life skills like this. 1 class each year. It could cover cooking/nutrition, mental health, chores, financial literacy, First aid basics, etc. Then by the time thye graduate they have had 4 years of teaching about basic stuff like that. I bet it would save tons of lives.

Well I think there could also be a place for like niche curators. Like a blog that goes and finds all the strategy games that are actually good and posts reviews of them. If your a fan of that type of game you follow them, they try all the shitty ones so you don't have to, and point you to the good ones. Same with other niche things.

Well I do have a blur thing on here. I edited Noctalia to remove the rounded corners. I like them sharp for this theme. It fits the fallout vibe more imo. Will have to try Umbriel out at some point but I'm pretty happy with the result I got from this theme for now.

Censored out some PII. The Desktop cycles through a bunch of different Deimos Fallout New Vegas art. If you don't know the artist they're awesome: https://deimosart.com/

I'm pretty in love with the way my computer looks now lol. Even the Plymouth theme is a Sunset Sarsaparilla thing I made (check my post history for that).

I have been working on theming my setup and made some fun little plymouth themes (just static not animated idk how to do all that and didn't feel like figuring it out), and figured I would share them. They're based on different things from fallout and are made using stuff I found online. The art itself is not mine I just put them together into plymouth themes.

I'd always wanted some New Vegas splash screens but couldn't find any premade. Hope some people who are New Vegas fans like me enjoy them! I might do some more for other factions eventually, but am currently preoccupied with other things. Here's an example of one:
