I'm not following the VLC example too well. Is France demanding the donations to VLC as revenue, thus hamstringing non-profit opensource software projects? That would seem like poor legislative design. I'd assume we'd want non-profit software development to continue as a practice, and that new tax as implied would potentially require a for-profit model for Opensource software's survival on the web. Am I reading that wrong?

I will probably sound like a broken record, but write your officials about what issues are important to you. I have great difficulty with doing this myself cuz it feels uncomfy and like homework, but I try anyway.

I think it finally sank in that every time a woman was going on screen, it was a deliberate choice. The suspension of disbelief just stopped being doable for a lot of us, and now the question 'was this actor coerced into this nude scene' is always coming to mind. And we know that for a lot of them, saying no to a nude scene early on is potentially a career-slower, so saying may not even feel like an option for them.

That's at least why I've somewhatsoured on vapid nudity in films.

I am working identifying a problem in a VFD for a friend's belt grinder, and I've ID'd the other ICs on but, but I wasn't able to ID this last 8-pin one. I know it's made by Microchip, but couldn't pull anything up from the codes on the front.

It's possible this is an encryption key chip with some obfuscated info on the front. However, I don't know how common that actually is.

    Any help is appreciated.

UPDATE: Looks like this one's solved. I went back and double-checked the code, and it looks like y'all were correct on it being '4A08I' and not '4A081'. This chip is also the closest IC to the MCU which lines up perfectly with this being an EEPROM.

I appreciate everyone's input and help with this!
