The approach we've taken is to talk to our aging parents and relatives to make a plan in advance.

We gave them a half page card with instructions on what to do if you get such a call. It starts with a reminder that these calls are often fake and then says to always call a trusted family member before sending anyone anything. It includes a list of trusted family members to call.

We made sure to put it on their fridges so its easy to locate when needed.

I'm looking for a server I can host in my home that has a simple ui where I can put in URLs for download and have them all show up on my Jellyfin. Bonus if there is VPN support.

Update: Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Several projects to check out: youtube-dl, pinchflat, ytptube, metube, tubearchivist, yt-dlp-webui, ytzero, igloo, youtarr

    Hey Hosters!

Just wanted to share that I got Jellyfin installed and set up on my Windows 2022 Server, and it’s working great! I didn't even know there was a version for WIndows. How do you like that?

I know this is probably “the usual” for everyone here, but I’m genuinely excited that I managed to get it all running smoothly.

After getting the server up, I went through the basics (users/permissions, library paths, and making sure everything was reachable on the network) and it all just worked. The interface is super clean, playback is nice and responsive, and it feels like I’ve been missing out on this until now.

Huge thanks to the Jellyfin team and the community! This project is awesome!! If anyone is stuck, please don’t give up. keep poking at the configuration and it’ll pay off. Now I just need to spend some time organizing my libraries!

    Happy Hosting!

    Hello friends!

My first attempt at a selfhosting project is up and running.

My goal was to make a private email and calendar system for my family. As it is private, as in we only email each other, I don't have to worry about delivery blocks or spam. The system needs to support 12 users. Turned out it was easier than I though it would be!

    Here is my stack:

Right now we are using the native android calendar app but I would love suggestions for a better calendar app.

    Happy Hosting!
